Settled the moment the weight is agreed. No invoice to wait on and nobody to chase next week.

A boot load is weighed the same way as a truck load. Factories and industrial sites, we collect.
Scrap metal recycling, Thomastown
Metal Plus buys scrap metal from the metal fabricators, food manufacturers, wholesalers and automotive workshops of the Thomastown industrial area, between Mahoneys Road and the ring road, and from the trades and households of Thomastown, Lalor and Epping. Sheet and plate offcuts, stainless out of food plant, worn-out machinery and workshop clear-outs are the regular loads.
Our yard is in Braybrook, out west, so most Thomastown scrap travels to us on our trucks. A shop putting out offcuts every week can have a bin on site, swapped as it fills, and a factory clear-out is collected. From a house, bring it to the yard, where there is no minimum. The weights and grades are shown to you, and you are paid on the spot.
Where the yard is
Thomastown’s industrial area starts at the Merri Creek, with Campbellfield on the other bank, and our trucks work both estates as one northern run. For a factory here the useful conversation is what you have and how quickly it builds up, so ring and tell us. From a house in Thomastown or Lalor, the yard in Braybrook takes any amount, Monday to Saturday.
What we see from here
This is what turns up from Thomastown, and roughly who it comes from.
Sheet and plate offcuts, drops, bar ends and punchings from the fabrication shops either side of Settlement Road. Mild steel goes as steel; keep stainless and aluminium apart, because each is paid at its own grade.
Steel recycling for fabricatorsStainless benching, tanks, hoppers and conveyor from food plants replacing a line, and the stainless offcuts their maintenance crews produce. We show you which grade yours came out as.
The stainless grades we buyBatteries, radiators, brake rotors and old parts from the automotive workshops, and damaged racking and pallet cages from the warehouses. Batteries are graded on their own, so keep them out of the steel.
Car battery recyclingHow it works
Tell us roughly what you have got. A photo from your phone is usually enough for us to say whether it is worth bringing in and what to expect.
Drive it into the Braybrook yard Monday to Saturday, or at another time by arrangement. Any amount, and no appointment. Factories and industrial sites can book a pickup instead.
Your load goes on the scales while you watch. You see the reading and you get the docket. Nothing is weighed out the back where you cannot see it.
Sorted the moment the weight is agreed. You are not waiting on an invoice and you are not chasing anybody next week.
Three ways to sell
Pull in, get weighed, get paid. No appointment and no minimum. We are open until 6:30pm on weekdays and 5pm on Saturday, and after hours by arrangement.
For factories and industrial sites across Greater Melbourne. Tell us what the site produces and roughly how much, and we will bring the right truck.
Scrap bins dropped on site for jobs over a tonne. Factories, demolition, construction and site clearance. We swap them out as they fill.
Weighing and payment
The single most common worry people have about selling scrap is that the weight will not be right and there is no way to check. So we took the question off the table.

Where we go
Thomastown is named after the Thomas family, who were market gardening here by 1848. When a school opened in the mid-1850s so many of its pupils and their neighbours were Thomases that the district took the name. In 1850 land nearby was bought for German settlers, and in 1889 the railway came through on its way to Epping.
Industry came slowly: a pottery in 1928, then dairying, then after the war manufacturing works, as Italian, Greek and Macedonian families settled around them. The southern part of Thomastown became a major industrial location in the 1970s, and the Metropolitan Ring Road, finished in 1999, made it easier still to reach.
It is still mostly traditional industry: metal fabrication, food manufacturing, wholesale and automotive services, with quarrying and brickmaking at its western edge by the creek. To the north, Lalor grew from a home-building cooperative formed by ex-service men and women in 1946, and Epping now holds Melbourne’s wholesale fruit and vegetable market. The fabricators and food plants between them turn out scrap every working day.

Questions
The ones we get asked most from Thomastown. Anything else, ring and ask.
Call 0452 220 422Yes. Factories and industrial sites from Mahoneys Road up to the ring road are part of our regular northern run, along with Campbellfield over the creek. Ring with what you have, roughly how much, and where a truck can get to it.
Yes, for a trade site producing over a tonne, and the bin is free on industrial and workshop sites. It sits in your yard, fills at your pace and we swap it, with the weights and grades shown for every swap. Tell us the metal and where a bin could go.
Yes: tanks, benches, hoppers, conveyor frames and pipework, at the end of their life or on a refit. Food plant is usually a good stainless grade, and kept apart from mild steel it is paid as stainless rather than averaged down with everything else.
No. Pickup is for factories and industrial sites, so from a house, bring it to the yard in Braybrook: there is no minimum at the gate, and we are open 7am to 6:30pm on weekdays and 7am to 5pm on Saturday. Copper and brass are worth the trip on their own.
You are paid on the spot when the weights are agreed, for a bin swap or a factory collection in Thomastown as much as for a trailer load at our gate. That is usually what a search for cash for scrap metal wants to know. The way a Victorian scrap metal dealer may pay is set by state law, the same for every yard, and our page on the law sets it out.
They are set by the metal, its grade, how clean it is and the weight, at the prices per kg we publish. For a Thomastown fabricator the biggest lever is separation: stainless, aluminium and brass offcuts kept out of the steel bin are each paid at their own grade. Ring and we will tell you what to expect for yours.
Ring us and we will tell you what it is worth and whether it is worth bringing in. Takes two minutes and it costs you nothing to ask.
