Weighed in front of you
You watch the load go on the scales and you see the reading yourself. Nothing gets weighed out the back.
Large loads from factories and industrial sites across Greater Geelong, weighed on site and paid on collection. Any question at all, ring and ask.
We buy Copper, Aluminium, Brass, Stainless steel, Steel and heavy metal, Cable and wire, Car bodies, Lead, Batteries, Electric motors, Alloy wheels, Radiators, Catalytic converters, Offcuts, Site clearance.
You watch the load go on the scales and you see the reading yourself. Nothing gets weighed out the back.
Settled the moment the weight is agreed. No invoice to wait on and nobody to chase next week.
Two hours after most Melbourne yards shut, 5pm on Saturday, and after hours by arrangement if you ring ahead.
A boot load is weighed the same way as a truck load. Factories and industrial sites, we collect.
Scrap metal recycling, Geelong
Metal Plus buys scrap metal from the manufacturers, engineering and fabrication shops, port and logistics operators and industrial sites of Greater Geelong, from the estates at Corio and North Geelong to Moolap and Waurn Ponds. Production offcuts, structural steel, plant coming out on a refit and heavy scrap that has built up for years are the loads worth the trip.
Our yard is at 159 Ashley St, Braybrook, up the Princes Freeway. So in Geelong we collect large loads from factories and industrial sites, and a site producing metal every week can have a bin on the ground, swapped when it is full. Everything is weighed in front of you and paid on collection. Not sure whether yours is big enough? Ring and ask, before anything is booked.
Where the yard is
Our yard is in Braybrook, and we will not pretend it is in Geelong. That is why pickup here is for large loads from factories and industrial sites: a truck down the freeway has to come back full. Ring with what there is and roughly how much, and we will tell you straight whether it is a pickup, a bin, or better saved up until there is more. Whatever you want to know, the call costs nothing.
What we see from here
The loads worth a truck down the freeway, and who they come from.
Production offcuts, drops, turnings and rejected parts from the factories and engineering shops in the northern estates. A site producing them every week suits a bin, swapped when it is full.
Scrap steel and heavy metalWorn plant and machinery, structural steel, tanks, racking and the heavy scrap that builds up around the port and the depots. Electric motors and cable are graded apart from the steel.
Scrap electric motorsWhole lines, machines and services coming out on a refit or a closure: steel, stainless, copper cable and motors in quantity. Ring before the job starts, not after.
Industrial cable and wireHow it works
Tell us roughly what you have got. A photo from your phone is usually enough for us to say whether it is worth bringing in and what to expect.
Drive it into the Braybrook yard Monday to Saturday, or at another time by arrangement. Any amount, and no appointment. Factories and industrial sites can book a pickup instead.
Your load goes on the scales while you watch. You see the reading and you get the docket. Nothing is weighed out the back where you cannot see it.
Sorted the moment the weight is agreed. You are not waiting on an invoice and you are not chasing anybody next week.
Three ways to sell
Pull in, get weighed, get paid. No appointment and no minimum. We are open until 6:30pm on weekdays and 5pm on Saturday, and after hours by arrangement.
For factories and industrial sites across Greater Melbourne. Tell us what the site produces and roughly how much, and we will bring the right truck.
Scrap bins dropped on site for jobs over a tonne. Factories, demolition, construction and site clearance. We swap them out as they fill.
Weighing and payment
The single most common worry people have about selling scrap is that the weight will not be right and there is no way to check. So we took the question off the table.

Where we go
Geelong grew rich on wool. Its port shipped the bales, and in the early 1920s three woollen mills opened here in as many years. Then heavier industry arrived: Ford started its first Australian assembly line in a disused Geelong wool store on 1 July 1925, while its factory went up in what became Norlane, and International Harvester opened works beside it on the eve of the Second World War.
An oil refinery opened at Corio in 1954 and still runs, and in 1963 an aluminium smelter opened at Point Henry, where Geelong was first settled. Between 1947 and 1965 greater Geelong grew from 58,400 people to 101,600.
The smelter closed in 2014 and the Ford plant in October 2016, but industry did not leave with them. The estates through Corio, Norlane, North Geelong and the North Shore, the port, and the industrial land at Moolap and Waurn Ponds still make, fix and move things, and every one of them produces metal: offcuts, worn plant, structural steel and the heap behind the workshop.

Questions
The ones Geelong businesses ask first. Anything else at all, ring and ask: it costs nothing.
Call 0452 220 422For large loads from factories and industrial sites, yes. It is a run down the freeway for our trucks, so the load has to be worth it: a heap of structural steel, a plant clearance, a factory clear-out, or a bin that fills on site. Ring with what there is and roughly how much, and we will tell you straight.
For large loads from factories and industrial sites, yes: nothing comes off for the truck, and the metal is weighed and paid for on collection. We do not collect from houses in Geelong, or small loads from anyone, because a truck down the freeway has to come back full.
There is no fixed figure, because it depends on the metal: a load of copper cable is worth a trip that the same weight of light steel is not. Ring or send a photo with roughly how much there is, and we will tell you whether it is a pickup, a bin, or better saved up until there is more.
Yes, for a factory or industrial site producing over a tonne. The bin is free on industrial sites, it sits there until it is full, and we swap it for an empty one. Tell us the metal, how fast it builds up and where a bin could sit.
No. Pickup is for factories and industrial sites, and our yard is in Braybrook, a long way to bring a trailer. If you are heading up to Melbourne anyway, the yard takes any amount, with no appointment, 7am to 6:30pm on weekdays and 7am to 5pm on Saturday.
You are paid on collection, as soon as the weight is agreed on your site. That is what most people searching for cash for scrap want to know. How a scrap metal dealer in Victoria may pay is set by state law, the same for every yard, and our page on the law explains it.
The same as for one next door to our yard: set by the metal, its grade, how clean it is and the weight, at the prices per kg we publish, and nothing comes off for the distance. Sorting is where a factory moves the number: clean copper, stainless and aluminium each go at their own grade rather than being averaged down with the steel.
Ring us and we will tell you what it is worth and whether it is worth bringing in. Takes two minutes and it costs you nothing to ask.
