Scrap metal recycling, Coburg
Metal Plus buys scrap metal from the people renovating Coburg’s older houses, from the plumbers, electricians and builders working on them, and from the factories and workshops of the Coburg North industrial precinct. Copper pipe and wiring, brass tapware, cast iron, roofing and gutters, and production offcuts are the regular loads.
Our yard at 159 Ashley St, Braybrook is across the Maribyrnong, so a boot or ute load is worth bringing in: no appointment and no minimum at the gate. Factories in Coburg North can have it collected, and a builder or workshop filling a bin can have one swapped as it fills. Graded in front of you, paid on the spot.
Where the yard is
The yard is in Braybrook, across the Maribyrnong from Coburg: a run across the north-west, not across town. A boot or ute load of copper is worth the trip, with no appointment and no minimum at the gate, and for the factories in Coburg North, the truck comes to you.
What we see from here
This is what turns up from Coburg, and roughly who it comes from.
Copper pipe, old wiring, brass tapware and cast iron out of the period and interwar houses. Small by weight and high by value, so worth a trip however little there is.
What scrap copper is worthOffcuts and old stock off the plumbers’, electricians’ and roofers’ utes: copper, brass, cable, conduit and roofing. Kept in separate buckets, each goes at its own grade.
Scrap cable and wireProduction offcuts, worn plant, racking and machinery from the factories and workshops in the Coburg North precinct. Electric motors and cable are graded apart from the steel.

Tell us roughly what you have got. A photo from your phone is usually enough for us to say whether it is worth bringing in and what to expect.
Drive it into the Braybrook yard Monday to Saturday, or at another time by arrangement. Any amount, and no appointment. Factories and industrial sites can book a pickup instead.
Your load goes on the scales while you watch. You see the reading and you get the docket. Nothing is weighed out the back where you cannot see it.
Sorted the moment the weight is agreed. You are not waiting on an invoice and you are not chasing anybody next week.
Three ways to sell
Pull in, get weighed, get paid. No appointment and no minimum. We are open until 6:30pm on weekdays and 5pm on Saturday, and after hours by arrangement.
For factories and industrial sites across Greater Melbourne. Tell us what the site produces and roughly how much, and we will bring the right truck.
Scrap bins dropped on site for jobs over a tonne. Factories, demolition, construction and site clearance. We swap them out as they fill.
Weighing and payment
The single most common worry people have about selling scrap is that the weight will not be right and there is no way to check. So we took the question off the table.

Where we go
Coburg was Pentridge until 1869. The penal stockade opened in 1850 on part of the village reserve, and when the district was renamed, a local merchant suggested honouring the Duke of Edinburgh’s coming visit: the Duke was of the royal house of Saxe-Coburg. The prison itself lasted until 1997, and its bluestone walls now stand around new housing and shops.
Industry gathered in Coburg North, between Gaffney Street, Sydney Road and Shorts Road. Knitting mills came first; after the war came paint, can-making and, from 1961, the Kodak works, which employed about 2,000 people at its peak and closed in 2005. Coburg North is still one of the area’s main industrial precincts, with hundreds of businesses.
Around it, the streets of Coburg and Pascoe Vale run from the 1880s subdivisions to the postwar houses built as Italian and Greek families made the suburb home, and they are being renovated hard. That produces the copper and cable of the inner suburbs, with somewhere to park the trailer.

Questions
The ones we get asked most from Coburg. Anything else, ring and ask.
Call 0452 220 422Usually, yes, especially if there is copper or brass in it. There is no minimum and no appointment, and we are open 7am to 6:30pm on weekdays and 7am to 5pm on Saturday. Not sure? Send a photo first.
No. Pickup is for factories and industrial sites, like the Coburg North precinct. From a house in Coburg or Pascoe Vale, bring it to the yard: there is no minimum at the gate.
Yes, and it is worth agreeing before the job starts, because old copper pipe is often worth more than people expect. Keep it out of the skip, and bring it in with any brass fittings still on: we grade them separately in front of you.
Yes, for a site producing over a tonne. The bin is free on industrial and workshop sites, it sits on your site, and we swap it as it fills. Tell us the metal, how fast it builds up and where a bin could go.
You are paid on the spot as soon as the weight is agreed, at our gate in Braybrook or on collection from a factory in Coburg North. That is what most people searching for cash for scrap want to know. How a scrap metal dealer in Victoria may pay is set by state law, the same for every yard, and our page on the law explains it.
A load from Coburg is priced like any other: on the metal, its grade, how clean it is and the weight, at the prices per kg we publish. On renovation scrap, sorting is what moves the number: clean copper pipe and brass fittings kept apart are each paid at their own grade. Ring or send a photo and we will tell you what to expect.
Ring us and we will tell you what it is worth and whether it is worth bringing in. Takes two minutes and it costs you nothing to ask.
