Why people use this yard

Weighed in front of you

You watch the load go on the scales and you see the reading yourself. Nothing gets weighed out the back.

Paid on the spot

Settled the moment the weight is agreed. No invoice to wait on and nobody to chase next week.

Open till 6:30pm weekdays

Two hours after most Melbourne yards shut, 5pm on Saturday, and after hours by arrangement if you ring ahead.

No minimum at the yard

A boot load is weighed the same way as a truck load. Factories and industrial sites, we collect.

What we buy

The vehicles we collect.

Cars, utes, vans, 4WDs and trucks, running or not, collected free from anywhere in Greater Melbourne. What one is worth comes down to the make, model and year, its condition and how complete it is.

It does not need to run, start or be registered.

  • An old hatchback being towed, with a second car on the tilt tray behind

    Complete vehicles

Engine, gearbox and body still together. The straightforward case and the one most people have.

  • An old red car with the engine and drivetrain removed, the engine bay stripped

    Stripped shells

Drivetrain and saleable parts already removed. Lighter, and paid on what is left.

  • A ute with its front and side crushed in an accident

    Accident-damaged and written-off cars

Smashed, written off, flood or fire damaged, or unroadworthy. The damage does not stop us buying it: it does not need to run, and we collect it as it is.

  • A ute loaded on a tilt tray tow truck

    Utes, vans, 4WDs and trucks

Commercial vehicles included. Bigger than a sedan and generally worth more for it.

Not on the list, or not sure what you have got?

These are the common cases, not every vehicle we take. Ring and describe yours, or send a photo, and we will tell you what to expect for it.

I recently had an old accident-damaged car that I needed to get rid of while I was in Bendigo. After searching on Google, I found MetalPlus in Melbourne, and I’m really glad I chose them.

The whole process was smooth and hassle-free. They were professional, easy to deal with, and offered me a fair price for my car. When I dropped the car off, everything was handled quickly, and I received my payment without any issues.

I’m very happy with the service I received and would definitely recommend MetalPlus to anyone looking to sell a scrap or unwanted car. Great experience overall!

Dawood is one of the nicest lads you’ll meet. Clearly communicated on the phone and was a pleasure to deal with. Had to get rid of these wheels asap and he took care of me with a fair payment.

Would highly recommend his service, easy and straightforward.

Price

What is my scrap car worth?

It depends on the car. The make, model and year, its condition and how complete it is all go into the figure, which is why a car is priced one at a time rather than by the kilo.

A complete car is worth more than a stripped shell, and a ute, van, 4WD or truck generally more than a small sedan. The catalytic converter counts as well, so tell us if it has gone. Damage, flood and fire do not stop us buying it.

Ring with the make, model and year and what state it is in, or send a photo, and we will tell you what it is worth before anybody books a truck.

Where to sell it

Where to sell a scrap car in Melbourne.

We come to you. Collection is free anywhere in Greater Melbourne, out east as much as next door to the yard, and nothing comes off the figure for the truck. The car does not need to run, start or be registered.

Or, if it still goes, drive it in to our yard at 159 Ashley St, Braybrook, open 7am to 6:30pm on weekdays and 7am to 5pm on Saturday. Either way you are paid on the spot, before the car leaves.

Melt Metals Pty Ltd, which trades as Metal Plus, holds a motor car trader licence: LMCT 12285. Bring photo ID and whatever shows the car is yours, and we help with the rest of the paperwork on the day.

Questions

Questions about scrap car bodies.

If yours is not here, ring and ask. It costs nothing and it saves a trip.

Call 0452 220 422
Does the car need to run?

No. It does not need to run, drive, start or be registered. If it has not moved in five years, that is a normal job for us.

What paperwork do I need?

Photo ID, and enough to show the vehicle is yours to sell. Victorian law requires seller identification to be recorded on scrap metal transactions and vehicles are no exception.

Do I have to cancel the registration?

Yes, and it is worth doing straight away. Until you cancel it with VicRoads and return the plates, the vehicle remains registered in your name. We can help you lodge the notice of disposal when we collect.

Do you collect, or do I have to get it there?

We collect, free, from anywhere in Greater Melbourne, and nothing comes off the figure for the truck. If it still drives, you can bring it to the yard instead.

What if the catalytic converter is already gone?

That is fine and it is common on older vehicles. Tell us when you ring, because it affects the figure and we would rather be straight with you up front than adjust it at the kerb.

How much will I get for my scrap car?

It depends on the make, model and year, its condition and how complete it is, so a car is priced one at a time rather than by the kilo. Ring with the details or send a photo, and we will tell you what it is worth before anybody books a truck.

Do you buy trucks and commercial vehicles?

Yes. Trucks, vans and commercial vehicles as well as cars, utes and 4WDs, running or not.

Do you buy catalytic converters on their own?

Yes. Bring photo ID: Victorian law requires it for every sale, and converters are the part most often stolen off cars.

Selling a catalytic converter

Are you licensed to buy cars?

Yes. Melt Metals Pty Ltd, the company behind Metal Plus, holds a motor car trader licence, LMCT 12285.

Worth knowing

Before and after we collect it.

Three things that are yours to sort out, though we help with the paperwork.

  1. 01

    Have proof you own it

We need to know the vehicle is yours to sell. Bring photo ID and whatever registration or purchase paperwork you have. This is a legal requirement for the transaction, not a formality we can skip on the day.

  2. 02

Cancel the registration and return the plates

That is yours to do with VicRoads, and worth doing promptly, because the vehicle stays in your name until you do. We can help you lodge the notice of disposal when we collect.

  3. 03

Take your things out of it

Glovebox, boot, under the seats, and the toll tag off the windscreen. Once it is on the truck it is gone.

Recognise yours?

Cars we are usually asked to collect.

Where most of the cars we collect come from. If yours is different, ring and ask.

  • Written-off and unroadworthy vehicles
  • Cars that failed a roadworthy and are not worth repairing
  • Deceased estates and property clearances
  • Long-term non-runners taking up a driveway
  • Mechanical workshop clear-outs
  • Farm and rural vehicle removal

How it works

Four steps, and you are paid before you leave.

  1. 01

Ring us or send a photo

Tell us roughly what you have got. A photo from your phone is usually enough for us to say whether it is worth bringing in and what to expect.

  2. 02

    Bring it to the yard

Drive it into the Braybrook yard Monday to Saturday, or at another time by arrangement. Any amount, and no appointment. Factories and industrial sites can book a pickup instead.

  3. 03

    Weighed in front of you

Your load goes on the scales while you watch. You see the reading and you get the docket. Nothing is weighed out the back where you cannot see it.

  4. 04

    Paid on the spot

Sorted the moment the weight is agreed. You are not waiting on an invoice and you are not chasing anybody next week.

Weighing and payment

You watch the scales. That is the whole policy.

The single most common worry people have about selling scrap is that the weight will not be right and there is no way to check. So we took the question off the table.

  • Your load is weighed where you can see it. Nothing goes out the back and comes back with a number on it.
  • You get a docket with the weight on it. Written down, in your hand, before anything is settled.
  • Grades are shown to you, not just quoted. If your copper is two different grades we will separate it in front of you and explain why.
  • Payment is settled on the spot. Once the weight is agreed, that is it. No invoice, no waiting.
