Why people use this yard

Weighed in front of you

You watch the load go on the scales and you see the reading yourself. Nothing gets weighed out the back.

Paid on the spot

Settled the moment the weight is agreed. No invoice to wait on and nobody to chase next week.

Open till 6:30pm weekdays

Two hours after most Melbourne yards shut, 5pm on Saturday, and after hours by arrangement if you ring ahead.

No minimum at the yard

A boot load is weighed the same way as a truck load. Factories and industrial sites, we collect.

Scrap metal recycling, Bundoora

Scrap metal recycling for Bundoora’s houses, workshops and industrial estate.

Metal Plus buys scrap metal from the households and renovators of Bundoora, Mill Park and Kingsbury, from the trades working on their houses of the 1960s, 70s and 80s, and from the manufacturers and workshops of the Bundoora industrial estate off Grimshaw Street. Copper pipe and cable, aluminium window and door frames, roofing, garage clear-outs and production offcuts are the usual loads.

Our yard at 159 Ashley St, Braybrook is a drive across the north, and a boot or trailer of copper, cable or aluminium is worth bringing in: no appointment and no minimum. Factories and workshops in the industrial estate can have it collected, and a business that fills a bin can have one swapped. Graded in front of you, paid on the spot.

Where the yard is

A drive across the north, worth making for copper.

The yard is in Braybrook, on the western side of Melbourne, so from Bundoora it is a proper drive rather than a quick run. It pays for copper, brass, cable and aluminium, which are worth enough per kilo to cover the trip, and less often for a trailer of steel. Ring or send a photo and we will tell you which yours is. For the industrial estate, the truck comes to you.

What we see from here

Scrap metal we buy from Bundoora.

This is what turns up from Bundoora, and roughly who it comes from.

01

Rewires and replumbs

Copper pipe and old cable out of the brick veneers being rewired and replumbed. Small by weight, good by value, and worth keeping apart from everything else.

02

Windows and doors

Aluminium window, sliding door and flyscreen frames from renovations. Take the glass out and strip off the rubber and steel screws where you can, because clean aluminium is graded higher.

03

The Grimshaw Street estate

Offcuts, turnings, worn tooling and old machinery from the manufacturers and workshops in the industrial estate. Electric motors are graded on their own rather than as steel.

How it works

Four steps, and you are paid before you leave.

  1. 01

Ring us or send a photo

Tell us roughly what you have got. A photo from your phone is usually enough for us to say whether it is worth bringing in and what to expect.

  2. 02

    Bring it to the yard

Drive it into the Braybrook yard Monday to Saturday, or at another time by arrangement. Any amount, and no appointment. Factories and industrial sites can book a pickup instead.

  3. 03

    Weighed in front of you

Your load goes on the scales while you watch. You see the reading and you get the docket. Nothing is weighed out the back where you cannot see it.

  4. 04

    Paid on the spot

Sorted the moment the weight is agreed. You are not waiting on an invoice and you are not chasing anybody next week.

Weighing and payment

You watch the scales. That is the whole policy.

The single most common worry people have about selling scrap is that the weight will not be right and there is no way to check. So we took the question off the table.

  • Your load is weighed where you can see it. Nothing goes out the back and comes back with a number on it.
  • You get a docket with the weight on it. Written down, in your hand, before anything is settled.
  • Grades are shown to you, not just quoted. If your copper is two different grades we will separate it in front of you and explain why.
  • Payment is settled on the spot. Once the weight is agreed, that is it. No invoice, no waiting.

Dawood is one of the nicest lads you’ll meet. Clearly communicated on the phone and was a pleasure to deal with. Had to get rid of these wheels asap and he took care of me with a fair payment.

Would highly recommend his service, easy and straightforward.

I recently had an old accident-damaged car that I needed to get rid of while I was in Bendigo. After searching on Google, I found MetalPlus in Melbourne, and I’m really glad I chose them.

The whole process was smooth and hassle-free. They were professional, easy to deal with, and offered me a fair price for my car. When I dropped the car off, everything was handled quickly, and I received my payment without any issues.

I’m very happy with the service I received and would definitely recommend MetalPlus to anyone looking to sell a scrap or unwanted car. Great experience overall!

Where we go

Farmland, a hospital reserve and a university.

Bundoora takes its name from the parish of Keelbundoora, and the word is thought to be Aboriginal for a plain where kangaroos live. Land here was auctioned in 1838 and most of it was being farmed by 1841, with wheat on the plain and a flour mill on the Plenty River at Janefield until 1862.

In 1914 the state bought land for the Mont Park hospital, and in 1965 two hundred hectares of it were set aside for La Trobe University, which opened two years later. House building took off after 1960, the Plenty Road tram was extended in stages from 1983 to 1995, and Mill Park, to the north, was subdivided in the 1970s and built up through the 1980s.

Those houses are now old enough to need rewiring, new plumbing and new windows, which is where most of Bundoora’s scrap comes from. The industrial estate off Grimshaw Street adds the rest: around 130 businesses, most of them small, with manufacturing the largest group.

Questions

Scrap metal questions from Bundoora.

The ones we get asked most from Bundoora. Anything else, ring and ask.

Call 0452 220 422
What is worth bringing in from Bundoora, and what is not?

Copper, brass, cable and aluminium almost always are: they are worth enough per kilo that a boot load is usually worth the drive. Steel, roofing iron and old sheds are worth the trip only in a decent load. Not sure which side yours falls on? Send a photo first.

We are replacing old aluminium windows in Mill Park. Do you take the frames?

Yes. With the glass out, the frames are good aluminium, and sliding door tracks, flyscreen frames and old awnings come in the same way. Strip off what comes away easily and leave the rest; we grade it in front of you.

Do you collect from the industrial estate off Grimshaw Street?

Yes, from factories and industrial sites in the estate. A one-off load is collected, and a business producing over a tonne can have a bin, free on industrial and workshop sites, swapped as it fills. Ring with the metal and roughly how much.

Scrap metal bins for trade sites

Can you pick up from my house in Bundoora?

No. Pickup is for factories and industrial sites, so from a house, bring it to the yard: there is no minimum at the gate and no appointment. We are open 7am to 6:30pm on weekdays and 7am to 5pm on Saturday.

Can I get cash for scrap metal in Bundoora?

You are paid on the spot as soon as the weight is agreed, and from Bundoora that is usually at our gate in Braybrook. That is the answer most people searching for cash for scrap want. How a scrap metal dealer in Victoria may pay is set by state law, the same for every yard; our page on the law covers it.

What the law says

What are scrap metal prices like in Bundoora?

The metal decides most of it: copper and brass are paid the most, aluminium next and steel least. After that it is the grade, how clean it is and the weight, at the prices per kg we publish. On renovation scrap, keeping the copper, brass and aluminium apart is the biggest difference you can make. Ring or send a photo for an idea before you load up.

Got metal sitting there doing nothing?

Ring us and we will tell you what it is worth and whether it is worth bringing in. Takes two minutes and it costs you nothing to ask.
