You watch the load go on the scales and you see the reading yourself. Nothing gets weighed out the back.
Settled the moment the weight is agreed. No invoice to wait on and nobody to chase next week.
Two hours after most Melbourne yards shut, 5pm on Saturday, and after hours by arrangement if you ring ahead.
A boot load is weighed the same way as a truck load. Factories and industrial sites, we collect.
Scrap metal recycling, Laverton
Metal Plus buys scrap metal from the distribution centres, cold stores, factories and trades of Laverton North, and from the households of Laverton. Racking, pallet cages, strapping, forklift parts, drums and old motors come out of the estates; sheds, fencing and renovation copper come out of the streets.
For a warehouse the usual answer is a bin on site, swapped on a schedule or when you ring. One-off factory and warehouse loads are collected. A household trailer load is dropped at our yard in Braybrook, where there is no minimum. Every load is graded in front of you and paid on the spot.
Where the yard is
The Western Ring Road begins at Laverton North, at the interchange with the Princes and West Gate freeways, which puts the estates within easy reach of the yard in Braybrook. Collections here are routine rather than special trips, and a bin on a warehouse site is swapped as it fills.
What we see from here
This is what turns up from Laverton, and roughly who it comes from.
Damaged racking beams and uprights, pallet cages, steel strapping, forklift parts and dock equipment. A steady trickle that suits a bin on site.
Steel recycling and binsProduction offcuts, drums, tanks and superseded plant from the factories in the estates. Drums have to be empty and open before they go in.
Sheds, fencing and renovation copper from the houses in Laverton. The yard takes any amount, from a single trailer load.
How it works
Tell us roughly what you have got. A photo from your phone is usually enough for us to say whether it is worth bringing in and what to expect.
Drive it into the Braybrook yard Monday to Saturday, or at another time by arrangement. Any amount, and no appointment. Factories and industrial sites can book a pickup instead.
Your load goes on the scales while you watch. You see the reading and you get the docket. Nothing is weighed out the back where you cannot see it.
Sorted the moment the weight is agreed. You are not waiting on an invoice and you are not chasing anybody next week.
Three ways to sell
Pull in, get weighed, get paid. No appointment and no minimum. We are open until 6:30pm on weekdays and 5pm on Saturday, and after hours by arrangement.
For factories and industrial sites across Greater Melbourne. Tell us what the site produces and roughly how much, and we will bring the right truck.
Scrap bins dropped on site for jobs over a tonne. Factories, demolition, construction and site clearance. We swap them out as they fill.
Weighing and payment
The single most common worry people have about selling scrap is that the weight will not be right and there is no way to check. So we took the question off the table.

Where we go
Laverton North is one of the big industrial and logistics precincts in the west: distribution warehouses, cold storage, manufacturing and the trades that keep them running, with new estates still going up. Most of the metal that comes out of it comes out of keeping those buildings working.
Laverton itself is established housing, and the metal from there is the usual household mix: sheds, fencing, renovations and the odd car body.
So there are two quite different jobs here. A warehouse that wants a bin on the ground and swapped on time, and a household with a trailer load to drive in.

Questions
The ones we get asked most from Laverton. Anything else, ring and ask.
Call 0452 220 422Damaged racking, pallet cages, strapping, forklift forks and parts, dock plates, old steel shelving and anything else metal. Keep batteries, cable and aluminium out of the steel if you can, because they are graded separately.
Yes. For a site that fills a bin at a steady rate we can work out a regular swap, or you can ring when it is full. Either way the weights and grades are shown to you each time.
Yes, steel drums that are empty and open. We cannot take sealed drums, or drums with anything still in them.
No. Pickup is for factories and industrial sites, like the estates in Laverton North. From a house, the yard in Braybrook takes any amount, Monday to Saturday.
You are paid on the spot when the weight is agreed, for a bin swap or a collection as well as a drop-off. That is what a search for cash for scrap is usually after. How a scrap metal dealer may pay is set by Victorian law, the same for every yard, and our page on the law sets out what it says.
Most of it is steel, such as racking, cages and strapping, which is paid by weight at steel rates, so volume matters. Electric motors, cable and aluminium are graded on their own and pay more, so keep them out of the steel bin if you can. Ring and we will tell you what to expect.
Ring us and we will tell you what it is worth and whether it is worth bringing in. Takes two minutes and it costs you nothing to ask.
