Weighed in front of you
You watch the load go on the scales and you see the reading yourself. Nothing gets weighed out the back.

You watch the load go on the scales and you see the reading yourself. Nothing gets weighed out the back.
Settled the moment the weight is agreed. No invoice to wait on and nobody to chase next week.
Two hours after most Melbourne yards shut, 5pm on Saturday, and after hours by arrangement if you ring ahead.
A boot load is weighed the same way as a truck load. Factories and industrial sites, we collect.
Scrap metal recycling, Sunshine
Metal Plus buys scrap metal from Sunshine’s fabrication shops, engineering works and automotive businesses, and from the builders knocking down its postwar houses for units. Roofing iron, copper pipe, old cable, offcuts, radiators and batteries all come in from here every week.
Braybrook shares a border with Sunshine, so our yard at 159 Ashley St is an easy place to drive it in: no appointment and no minimum. Factories in the estates can have it collected, and a workshop filling a bin can have one swapped as it fills. Graded in front of you, paid on the spot.
Where the yard is
Braybrook and Sunshine share a border, so the yard is a short run from anywhere in Sunshine, Sunshine North or Sunshine West. For most people here that makes driving in the easy option: load the trailer, come in, and be weighed and paid while you wait. For a factory in the estates, we collect.
What we see from here
This is what turns up from Sunshine, and roughly who it comes from.
Roofing iron, gutters, copper pipe and old cable out of the postwar houses being replaced with units. Pull the copper and the cable out before the skip arrives.
What scrap copper is worthOffcuts, drops, bar ends and turnings from the shops in the Sunshine West and Sunshine North estates. Steel, stainless and aluminium, usually already separated by the shop.
Radiators, alloy wheels, batteries, brake parts and engine blocks from the workshops. Batteries and radiators are graded on their own, so keep them out of the steel.
Car battery recyclingHow it works
Tell us roughly what you have got. A photo from your phone is usually enough for us to say whether it is worth bringing in and what to expect.
Drive it into the Braybrook yard Monday to Saturday, or at another time by arrangement. Any amount, and no appointment. Factories and industrial sites can book a pickup instead.
Your load goes on the scales while you watch. You see the reading and you get the docket. Nothing is weighed out the back where you cannot see it.
Sorted the moment the weight is agreed. You are not waiting on an invoice and you are not chasing anybody next week.
Three ways to sell
Pull in, get weighed, get paid. No appointment and no minimum. We are open until 6:30pm on weekdays and 5pm on Saturday, and after hours by arrangement.
For factories and industrial sites across Greater Melbourne. Tell us what the site produces and roughly how much, and we will bring the right truck.
Scrap bins dropped on site for jobs over a tonne. Factories, demolition, construction and site clearance. We swap them out as they fill.
Weighing and payment
The single most common worry people have about selling scrap is that the weight will not be right and there is no way to check. So we took the question off the table.

Where we go
Sunshine was called Braybrook Junction until July 1907. It was renamed that year after H.V. McKay’s Sunshine Harvester Works, which had moved here from Ballarat and by the 1920s was among the biggest industrial works in the southern hemisphere. Metal has been made and worked in this part of Melbourne for more than a century.
The harvester works are long gone, but the industry never left. Sunshine North and Sunshine West carry big manufacturing and trade estates: fabrication shops, engineering works, automotive businesses and warehouses, most of them producing offcuts every working day.
Around them are streets of postwar houses, and a lot of them are being knocked down for units and townhouses. Every one of those jobs produces roofing, copper pipe and old wiring, and nearly all of it is worth more sold than skipped.

Questions
The ones we get asked most from Sunshine. Anything else, ring and ask.
Call 0452 220 422Yes. The yard is next door in Braybrook, there is no appointment and no minimum at the gate, and we are open 7am to 6:30pm on weekdays and 7am to 5pm on Saturday. A trailer load is weighed and paid while you wait.
The copper first: pipe and cable, because that is where most of the money is. Then the roofing iron, the gutters and any steel. Whatever you pull out before the skip arrives is money rather than skip space, and on a bigger knock-down a bin on site keeps the metal out of the skip altogether.
Yes, and it is a short run from the yard. For a shop producing offcuts every week, a bin on site that we swap as it fills is usually easier than booking pickups. Ring and tell us what comes out and how often.
Yes. Keep them to one side on the trailer rather than buried in the steel. They are graded separately, and they are worth more that way than thrown in with everything else.
You are paid on the spot the moment the weight is agreed, and from Sunshine that usually means at our gate in Braybrook. That is what most people searching for cash for scrap are after. How a scrap metal dealer in Victoria may pay is set by state law, the same at every yard, and our page on the law explains it.
It depends on what it is. Copper and brass pay the most, then aluminium, with steel and roofing iron at the other end. Clean, sorted metal is worth more than a mixed heap. Ring or send a photo of the load and we will tell you what to expect before you hitch the trailer.
Ring us and we will tell you what it is worth and whether it is worth bringing in. Takes two minutes and it costs you nothing to ask.
