Other metals we buy

Ring or send a photo for a price.

Tell us what you have and roughly how much, and we will tell you what to expect before you load up.

Top of the range or bottom

Five things decide where your load lands.

The same metal can be paid at the top of its range or near the bottom. Knowing these is most of the difference.

01

What the metal actually is

Copper pays the most, then brass, then aluminium, with steel and heavy scrap at the other end. Most loads are a mix, which is why a single price for "scrap metal" does not mean anything.

02

The grade, not just the type

Copper is not one thing. Bright bare wire, tube, and insulated cable are three different rates, and the gap between them is large. The same is true of aluminium and of stainless.

03

How clean it is

Metal with plastic, rubber, timber or concrete attached is worth less than metal without, because somebody has to take it off. If it is easy for you to separate, it is worth doing.

04

How much there is

A tonne of one clean grade is worth more per kilo than the same tonne spread across six mixed ones. Volume helps, and so does sorting.

05

Whether you watched it graded

Two loads of the same metal can be paid at different grades, and the grade is where a price is won or lost. We grade in front of you and show you what came out of the load, so you know which line of the price list you were paid on.

Our guarantee

Bring us a written quote and we will beat it by 10c a kilo

Got a price from another Melbourne yard? Bring it in writing and we will better it by ten cents per kilogram. Not a vague promise to match, a set figure we put our name to.

Why people use this yard

Weighed in front of you

You watch the load go on the scales and you see the reading yourself. Nothing gets weighed out the back.

Paid on the spot

Settled the moment the weight is agreed. No invoice to wait on and nobody to chase next week.

Open till 6:30pm weekdays

Two hours after most Melbourne yards shut, 5pm on Saturday, and after hours by arrangement if you ring ahead.

No minimum at the yard

A boot load is weighed the same way as a truck load. Factories and industrial sites, we collect.

How much is scrap aluminium per kg?

By grade, per kg: clean extrusion $2.50 to $3.80, clean alloy wheels $2.20 to $3.50, painted extrusion $2 to $3.20, sheet $2 to $3.20, cast $1.80 to $2.80 and cans $1 to $2. What your load comes to is confirmed on the scales in front of you, by grade and weight.

Why is each price a range?

Because the grade, how clean it is and how much there is move a load within it. The top of each range is for clean, sorted metal of that grade; the same metal with paint, fittings, insulation or another metal mixed in is paid lower down. We grade in front of you, so you can see where yours landed and why.

Will I get the top of the range?

For clean, sorted metal of that grade, in a decent quantity, that is what the top of the range is for. Mixed or dirty loads are graded towards the lowest thing in them, which is why sorting is worth more than anything else you can do.

Do I get more if I sort it myself?

Usually, yes. Clean separated loads are worth more per kilo than mixed ones, because somebody has to do the separating either way. If it is easy for you to pull apart it is worth doing. If it is not, bring it as it is and we will sort it here.

Do you pay more for bigger loads?

Volume helps, particularly when it is a single clean grade. If you have got an ongoing quantity coming out of a workshop or a site, that is worth a conversation about a standing arrangement rather than one-off drop-offs.

Will you match another yard?

Better than match. Bring a written quote from any Melbourne yard and we will beat it. Ring for the conditions before you come in.

Got metal sitting there doing nothing?

Ring us and we will tell you what it is worth and whether it is worth bringing in. Takes two minutes and it costs you nothing to ask.
