Not sure which grade yours is? Ring, or send a photo, and we will tell you what to expect before you load the trailer.

Why people use this yard

Weighed in front of you

You watch the load go on the scales and you see the reading yourself. Nothing gets weighed out the back.

Paid on the spot

Settled the moment the weight is agreed. No invoice to wait on and nobody to chase next week.

Open till 6:30pm weekdays

Two hours after most Melbourne yards shut, 5pm on Saturday, and after hours by arrangement if you ring ahead.

No minimum at the yard

A boot load is weighed the same way as a truck load. Factories and industrial sites, we collect.

What we buy

Every kind of scrap wheel and rim we buy.

Alloy wheels are cast aluminium, and a wheel is paid on the aluminium in it. The tyre, the balance weights and the valve are not aluminium, which is why a bare wheel is worth more per kilo than one that still has them on.

You do not need to know the grade: we grade it in front of you and show you what came out of the load.

  • A heap of scrap alloy wheels, rims tipped on their sides, some with the hubs still rusty

    Clean alloy wheels

Bare alloy rims and mags with the tyre, weights and valve off. The best paying wheel grade.

  • Alloy wheels with their tyres still on, lying on the ground at the yard

    Alloy wheels with tyres on

Taken as they are. The tyre is weight that is not aluminium, so they are graded below bare wheels.

  • A big pile of scrap chrome-plated wheels

    Chrome-plated wheels

Still alloy underneath, but the plating means they are graded apart from painted and polished wheels.

  • Used aluminium truck wheels lying on concrete, some polished, some dull and grimy

    Truck and forged alloy wheels

Big polished wheels off trucks, trailers and buses. Heavy, clean aluminium, and worth keeping apart from car wheels.

  • A heap of scrap steel rims, black and rusted

    Steel rims

Not alloy, but bought too, as steel. A magnet sticks to a steel rim and not to an alloy one.

    Scrap steel

Not on the list, or not sure what you have got?

These are the common ones, not everything we take. Not sure if a wheel is alloy or steel? Put a magnet on it: it sticks to steel and not to alloy. Send a photo and we will tell you what to expect.

Dawood is one of the nicest lads you’ll meet. Clearly communicated on the phone and was a pleasure to deal with. Had to get rid of these wheels asap and he took care of me with a fair payment.

Would highly recommend his service, easy and straightforward.

I recently had an old accident-damaged car that I needed to get rid of while I was in Bendigo. After searching on Google, I found MetalPlus in Melbourne, and I’m really glad I chose them.

The whole process was smooth and hassle-free. They were professional, easy to deal with, and offered me a fair price for my car. When I dropped the car off, everything was handled quickly, and I received my payment without any issues.

I’m very happy with the service I received and would definitely recommend MetalPlus to anyone looking to sell a scrap or unwanted car. Great experience overall!

Been in and had a good run? A review takes a minute and it genuinely helps. Leave one here, or just ring 0452 220 422.

Send us a photo

What are your wheels worth? Send a photo.

A picture from your phone is usually enough for us to tell you what it is and what to expect for it, before you load the trailer.

The quickest way for us to get back to you.

So we know where you are.

How would you like to do it?

We only collect from factories and industrial sites. From a house, bring it to the yard: any amount, no appointment.

Rough is fine. "About half a ute of copper pipe and some brass fittings" tells us plenty. If you know roughly how much there is, say so.

Up to four. A photo from your phone is usually enough for us to tell you what it is worth, and it saves a trip if it turns out not to be.

In a hurry? Ring 0452 220 422. We are open until 6:30pm on weekdays and 5pm on Saturday.

Where to sell it

Where to sell scrap alloy wheels in Melbourne.

Drop it off at our yard, 159 Ashley St, Braybrook, with any amount, from a single set of four to a trailer of rims, with no appointment and no minimum at the gate. We are open 7am to 6:30pm on weekdays and 7am to 5pm on Saturday, and outside those hours by arrangement.

Alloy wheels are graded with the aluminium. They come from the workshops and trade estates out east and the transport yards in Brooklyn as much as from home garages, and a set is an easy run to the yard. From a factory or an industrial site, we collect, weighed on site and paid on collection.

Bring photo ID, which Victorian law requires for every scrap metal sale. And take the weights off before you come if it is quick to do: lead wheel weights are worth money on their own.

If yours is not here, ring and ask. It costs nothing and it saves a trip.

Can you sell rims for scrap metal?

Yes. Alloy rims are cast aluminium and are worth more than most people expect, and steel rims are bought too, as steel. Bring any number to the yard, with no appointment and no minimum.

How much are scrap alloy wheels worth?

We pay $1 to $3.50 per kg for scrap alloy wheels at our Braybrook yard in Melbourne, depending on the grade. By grade, per kg: clean alloy wheels $2.20 to $3.50, truck alloys $2.20 to $3.50, chrome alloys $1.60 to $2.60 and wheels with tyres $1 to $2. What your load comes to is confirmed on the scales in front of you, by grade and weight.

Do I need to take the tyres off?

No. We take alloy wheels with or without the tyres. A bare wheel is worth more per kilo because the tyre is not aluminium, so for a set or more it is worth taking them off if you can.

Do you take steel rims?

Yes, as steel. A magnet sticks to a steel rim and not to an alloy one, so keep the two apart: mixed together, the alloys can end up graded down.

Scrap steel and cast iron

Do you take chrome wheels?

Yes. They are alloy underneath, but the chrome plating means they are graded apart from painted and polished wheels.

Do you take damaged or cracked wheels?

Yes. Kerbed, bent, cracked or corroded makes no difference to scrap: a wheel is paid on the aluminium in it.

Is there a minimum for alloy wheels?

No minimum at the yard: one wheel is fine.

Dropping off at the Braybrook yard

I run a tyre shop or a workshop with wheels every week. Can we set something up?

Yes. Ring and tell us roughly how many come through and how often. Regular drop-offs at the yard suit most shops, and where it builds up past a tonne, a bin on site, swapped as it fills.

Worth knowing

How to get more for your scrap alloy wheels.

Including the times when the honest answer is that it is not worth your trouble.

  1. 01

Take the tyres off if you can

A tyre is weight that is not aluminium, so a bare wheel is worth more per kilo. If you have a tyre machine, or a tyre shop will do it, it pays for a set or more. If not, bring them with the tyres on: we take them either way.

  2. 02

Knock off the weights and pull the valves

Balance weights, valve stems and tyre pressure sensors are not aluminium either. Take them off if it is quick, and keep any lead weights in their own bucket, because they are worth money on their own.

  3. 03

    Keep chrome and steel apart

Chrome-plated wheels and steel rims are graded separately from painted alloys. A magnet finds the steel ones in seconds.

However you bring it, it is weighed in front of you.

You watch the load go on the scales, you read the figure yourself, and you get it on a docket before money is discussed.

How we weigh and pay

Recognise yours?

Where scrap alloy wheels usually come from.

The jobs that most often produce scrap alloy wheels. If yours is not here it does not mean we will not take it.

  • Tyre shops and wheel upgrades
  • Mechanics and car wreckers
  • Kerbed, cracked or bent wheels
  • Old sets in the garage or shed
  • Truck, trailer and bus fleets
  • Cars stripped before scrapping

How it works

Four steps, and you are paid before you leave.

  1. 01

Ring us or send a photo

Tell us roughly what you have got. A photo from your phone is usually enough for us to say whether it is worth bringing in and what to expect.

  2. 02

    Bring it to the yard

Drive it into the Braybrook yard Monday to Saturday, or at another time by arrangement. Any amount, and no appointment. Factories and industrial sites can book a pickup instead.

  3. 03

    Weighed in front of you

Your load goes on the scales while you watch. You see the reading and you get the docket. Nothing is weighed out the back where you cannot see it.

  4. 04

    Paid on the spot

Sorted the moment the weight is agreed. You are not waiting on an invoice and you are not chasing anybody next week.

Weighing and payment

You watch the scales. That is the whole policy.

The single most common worry people have about selling scrap is that the weight will not be right and there is no way to check. So we took the question off the table.

  • Your load is weighed where you can see it. Nothing goes out the back and comes back with a number on it.
  • You get a docket with the weight on it. Written down, in your hand, before anything is settled.
  • Grades are shown to you, not just quoted. If your copper is two different grades we will separate it in front of you and explain why.
  • Payment is settled on the spot. Once the weight is agreed, that is it. No invoice, no waiting.
