Why people use this yard

Weighed in front of you

You watch the load go on the scales and you see the reading yourself. Nothing gets weighed out the back.

Paid on the spot

Settled the moment the weight is agreed. No invoice to wait on and nobody to chase next week.

Open till 6:30pm weekdays

Two hours after most Melbourne yards shut, 5pm on Saturday, and after hours by arrangement if you ring ahead.

No minimum at the yard

A boot load is weighed the same way as a truck load. Factories and industrial sites, we collect.

Scrap metal recycling, Eastern suburbs

Scrap metal recycling for the east, on the same terms as anywhere else.

Metal Plus buys scrap metal from the workshops and trade estates of Melbourne’s east, through Bayswater, Boronia, Knoxfield and Scoresby, and from the households, renovators and roofers in the suburbs around them. Workshop accumulation, old roofing, copper from rewires and car bodies are the usual loads.

Our yard is in Braybrook, on the other side of Melbourne. Factories and industrial sites out here are collected from the same as anywhere else, and a workshop that keeps producing scrap can have a bin on site. From a house, it is a drive to the yard, where there is no minimum. Every load is graded in front of you and paid on the spot.

Where the yard is

Same service, whichever side of Melbourne you are on.

Our yard is in Braybrook, but collection from a factory or an industrial site in the east works exactly the same as it does next door to us, with the same weigh-in and payment as at our gate. From a house it is a drive across town, and the yard takes any amount, Monday to Saturday.

What we see from here

Scrap metal we buy from the eastern suburbs.

Different regions produce genuinely different loads. This is what turns up from the eastern suburbs, and roughly who it comes from.

01

Workshop and automotive

Accumulated offcuts, old parts, alloy wheels, radiators, batteries and machinery out of the trade estates through Bayswater, Boronia and Scoresby. This is the east’s best load and it is often sitting behind a shop unnoticed.

Scrap alloy wheels and rims
02

Light engineering

Sheet offcuts, bar ends, turnings and superseded tooling from the smaller fabrication and machining shops through Knoxfield and Rowville.

03

Renovation and rewire

Copper pipe and cable from the older housing through Camberwell, Hawthorn, Kew and Box Hill. Small by weight and high by value.

04

Shed and property clear-outs

Decades of accumulation out of a garage or a back shed. Usually more metal than the owner expects once it is out on the driveway.

05

Roofing and guttering

Old steel and colorbond roofing, guttering and downpipes off re-roofs, which the east produces constantly.

06

Cars and car bodies

End-of-life vehicles and the parts that come off them. Ring before you start dismantling, because what you strip changes what the body is worth.

How it works

Four steps, and you are paid before you leave.

  1. 01

Ring us or send a photo

Tell us roughly what you have got. A photo from your phone is usually enough for us to say whether it is worth bringing in and what to expect.

  2. 02

    Bring it to the yard

Drive it into the Braybrook yard Monday to Saturday, or at another time by arrangement. Any amount, and no appointment. Factories and industrial sites can book a pickup instead.

  3. 03

    Weighed in front of you

Your load goes on the scales while you watch. You see the reading and you get the docket. Nothing is weighed out the back where you cannot see it.

  4. 04

    Paid on the spot

Sorted the moment the weight is agreed. You are not waiting on an invoice and you are not chasing anybody next week.

Weighing and payment

You watch the scales. That is the whole policy.

The single most common worry people have about selling scrap is that the weight will not be right and there is no way to check. So we took the question off the table.

  • Your load is weighed where you can see it. Nothing goes out the back and comes back with a number on it.
  • You get a docket with the weight on it. Written down, in your hand, before anything is settled.
  • Grades are shown to you, not just quoted. If your copper is two different grades we will separate it in front of you and explain why.
  • Payment is settled on the spot. Once the weight is agreed, that is it. No invoice, no waiting.

Dawood is one of the nicest lads you’ll meet. Clearly communicated on the phone and was a pleasure to deal with. Had to get rid of these wheels asap and he took care of me with a fair payment.

Would highly recommend his service, easy and straightforward.

I recently had an old accident-damaged car that I needed to get rid of while I was in Bendigo. After searching on Google, I found MetalPlus in Melbourne, and I’m really glad I chose them.

The whole process was smooth and hassle-free. They were professional, easy to deal with, and offered me a fair price for my car. When I dropped the car off, everything was handled quickly, and I received my payment without any issues.

I’m very happy with the service I received and would definitely recommend MetalPlus to anyone looking to sell a scrap or unwanted car. Great experience overall!

Where we go

Mostly residential, with a serious trade spine running through it.

On the surface the east is houses, and a lot of the metal that comes out of it is exactly what you would expect: renovations, rewires, old roofing, sheds being cleared and cars being pulled apart in driveways.

Underneath that is a light-industrial and trade belt through Bayswater, Boronia, Knoxfield, Scoresby and Rowville that is easy to miss and turns over a lot of metal. Small engineering, automotive workshops, sheet metal, plastics and machinery businesses, mostly in older estates, mostly the kind of operation that accumulates scrap in a corner for months rather than dealing with it weekly.

Those two produce very different jobs. A Rowville engineering shop clearing out two years of accumulation is a straightforward collection, or a bin. A few metres of copper pipe from a Balwyn bathroom is worth good money, and the way to turn it into money is a run to the yard.

Questions

Scrap metal questions from the eastern suburbs.

The ones we get asked most from this part of Melbourne.

Call 0452 220 422
Do you really collect out in the east?

From factories and industrial sites, yes, on the same terms as anywhere else, from Box Hill to Rowville. We do not collect from houses: the yard in Braybrook takes any amount, Monday to Saturday.

Is a trailer of steel worth the drive across town?

Ring or send a photo first. Steel pays the least per kilo of anything we buy, so the trip is a closer call than it is for copper, and we will tell you honestly whether it is worth it. A workshop or site with more than a tonne can have a bin instead.

I have got a small amount of copper. What do I do with it?

Bring it to the yard. Copper is worth enough per kilo that a small load is still worth money, and there is no minimum at the gate. Not sure what you have got? Send a photo through the quote form first.

Do you take whole cars from out here?

Yes, car bodies and end-of-life vehicles are a normal part of what we do. Ring first, because what is still on the car when we collect it changes the number.

Can I get cash for scrap metal in the eastern suburbs?

You are paid on the spot when the weight is agreed, the same on a factory collection as at our gate. That is what most people mean when they search for cash for scrap. How a scrap metal dealer may pay in Victoria is set by state law for every yard, and our page on the law explains what it says.

What the law says

Do you pay less because the east is further from the yard?

No. The price is set by the metal, its grade, how clean it is and how much there is, not by the suburb it came from, and the same published prices per kg apply wherever you are. Ring or send a photo and we will tell you what to expect for yours.

Scrap metal prices per kg

Got metal sitting there doing nothing?

Ring us and we will tell you what it is worth and whether it is worth bringing in. Takes two minutes and it costs you nothing to ask.
