Scrap aluminium · per kg

$1 to $3.80/kg

As at

Scrap aluminium prices per kg in Melbourne, as at 29 October 2026
Grade Price per kg
Clean extrusion Top rate Unpainted window frames and offcuts, with no steel, glass or rubber. $2.50 to $3.80/kg
Clean alloy wheels Bare alloy wheels with the tyres, weights and valves off. $2.20 to $3.50/kg
Painted or anodised extrusion Powder-coated and anodised frames and sections. $2 to $3.20/kg
Sheet and plate Clean offcuts, roofing, cladding and plate. $2 to $3.20/kg
Cast aluminium Gearbox housings, engine parts and other castings. $1.80 to $2.80/kg
Cans Clean, dry drink cans. $1 to $2/kg

Grade decides most of what you are paid. Clean mill-finish extrusion takes the best aluminium rate, and painted or anodised extrusion is graded below it. Sheet, cast, wheels and cans are each graded on their own, and window frames are worth more with the glass, steel and rubber out.

Not sure which grade yours is? Ring, or send a photo, and we will tell you what to expect before you load the trailer.

Why people use this yard

Weighed in front of you

You watch the load go on the scales and you see the reading yourself. Nothing gets weighed out the back.

Paid on the spot

Settled the moment the weight is agreed. No invoice to wait on and nobody to chase next week.

Open till 6:30pm weekdays

Two hours after most Melbourne yards shut, 5pm on Saturday, and after hours by arrangement if you ring ahead.

No minimum at the yard

A boot load is weighed the same way as a truck load. Factories and industrial sites, we collect.

What we buy

Every type of scrap aluminium we buy.

Aluminium is light for its bulk, which catches people out: a trailer that looks full is often less weight than you expect. Clean separated extrusion is where the money is.

You do not need to know the grade: we grade it in front of you and show you what came out of the load.

  • Long lengths of mill finish aluminium extrusion

    Extrusion

Window and door frames, shopfront sections, mill finish. The cleanest and best paying aluminium grade.

  • White painted aluminium window frames and black extrusion, rubber seals still in

    Painted or anodised extrusion

The same sections with a coating on them. Graded separately from mill finish.

  • Crushed aluminium sheet scrap

    Sheet and plate

Roofing, cladding, trailer bodies, boat hulls, signage.

  • Cast aluminium gearbox and engine housings

    Cast aluminium

Engine parts, gearbox housings, pump bodies, outdoor furniture. Heavier and denser than it looks.

  • Crushed aluminium drink cans baled together

    Cans

Taken by weight like anything else. Loose in bags is fine, and there is no need to crush them.

  • A heap of scrap alloy wheels, rims tipped on their sides, some with the hubs still rusty

    Alloy wheels

Mags and alloy rims, with or without the tyres still fitted. Graded as cast aluminium.

    Scrap alloy wheels and rims

Not on the list, or not sure what you have got?

These are the common ones, not everything we take. Not sure it is aluminium? A magnet will not stick to it, and it is much lighter than steel for its size. Send a photo and we will tell you what it is and what to expect for it.

Dawood is one of the nicest lads you’ll meet. Clearly communicated on the phone and was a pleasure to deal with. Had to get rid of these wheels asap and he took care of me with a fair payment.

Would highly recommend his service, easy and straightforward.

I recently had an old accident-damaged car that I needed to get rid of while I was in Bendigo. After searching on Google, I found MetalPlus in Melbourne, and I’m really glad I chose them.

The whole process was smooth and hassle-free. They were professional, easy to deal with, and offered me a fair price for my car. When I dropped the car off, everything was handled quickly, and I received my payment without any issues.

I’m very happy with the service I received and would definitely recommend MetalPlus to anyone looking to sell a scrap or unwanted car. Great experience overall!

Our guarantee

Bring us a written quote and we will beat it by 10c a kilo

Got a price from another Melbourne yard? Bring it in writing and we will better it by ten cents per kilogram. Not a vague promise to match, a set figure we put our name to.

Send us a photo

What is your aluminium worth? Send a photo.

A picture from your phone is usually enough for us to tell you what it is and what to expect for it, before you load the trailer.

The quickest way for us to get back to you.

So we know where you are.

How would you like to do it?

We only collect from factories and industrial sites. From a house, bring it to the yard: any amount, no appointment.

Rough is fine. "About half a ute of copper pipe and some brass fittings" tells us plenty. If you know roughly how much there is, say so.

Up to four. A photo from your phone is usually enough for us to tell you what it is worth, and it saves a trip if it turns out not to be.

In a hurry? Ring 0452 220 422. We are open until 6:30pm on weekdays and 5pm on Saturday.

Where to sell it

Where to sell scrap aluminium in Melbourne.

Drop it off at our yard, 159 Ashley St, Braybrook, with any amount, from a bag of cans to a trailer of window frames, with no appointment and no minimum at the gate. We are open 7am to 6:30pm on weekdays and 7am to 5pm on Saturday, and outside those hours by arrangement.

Aluminium turns up in quantity from shopfit strip-outs in the inner suburbs and the offcuts of fabrication shops up north. From a factory or an industrial site, we collect, weighed on site and paid on collection.

Bring photo ID, which Victorian law requires for every scrap metal sale. And keep the extrusion apart from the cast and the sheet if it is easy to: separated aluminium is worth more than one mixed pile.

Questions

Questions about scrap aluminium.

If yours is not here, ring and ask. It costs nothing and it saves a trip.

Call 0452 220 422
Do you take window frames with the glass still in?

Yes, but they are worth more with the glass and rubber out. If it is a handful of frames it is probably not worth your time. If it is a truckload from a job, it is.

Is aluminium worth as much as copper?

No, not close. Copper is the highest paying metal we take. Aluminium sits in the middle, well above steel and well below copper and brass.

Scrap copper and its grades

Do you take alloy wheels?

Yes, with or without the tyres still fitted. They are cast aluminium and they are graded as such.

Scrap alloy wheels and rims

Do you pick up scrap aluminium?

From factories and industrial sites, yes, anywhere in Greater Melbourne, weighed on site and paid on collection. We do not collect from houses: bring it to the yard instead, where there is no minimum at the gate.

Pickup for factories and industrial sites

How much is scrap aluminium worth per kg?

We pay $1 to $3.80 per kg for scrap aluminium at our Braybrook yard in Melbourne, depending on the grade. By grade, per kg: clean extrusion $2.50 to $3.80, clean alloy wheels $2.20 to $3.50, painted extrusion $2 to $3.20, sheet $2 to $3.20, cast $1.80 to $2.80 and cans $1 to $2. What your load comes to is confirmed on the scales in front of you, by grade and weight.

Do you take aluminium radiators?

Yes. They are graded on their own rather than as clean aluminium, so keep them out of the extrusion pile.

Scrap radiators, graded by type

Worth knowing

How to get more for your scrap aluminium.

Including the times when the honest answer is that it is not worth your trouble.

  1. 01

Pull the steel and rubber out

Window frames come with steel screws, hinges and rubber seals, and glass. Anything not aluminium drags the grade down. Frames stripped back to bare section are worth meaningfully more than frames as they came off the wall.

  2. 02

    Keep cast separate from extrusion

They are different grades and they get weighed separately. Throwing a gearbox housing in with clean window sections means the whole lot gets treated as the lesser of the two.

  3. 03

    Do not bother crushing cans

It is bought by weight, not volume. Crushing saves you room in the car and changes nothing about what you are paid.

However you bring it, it is weighed in front of you.

You watch the load go on the scales, you read the figure yourself, and you get it on a docket before money is discussed.

How we weigh and pay

Recognise yours?

Where scrap aluminium usually comes from.

The jobs that most often produce scrap aluminium. If yours is not here it does not mean we will not take it.

  • Window and door replacements
  • Shopfitting and commercial strip-outs
  • Roofing, guttering and cladding
  • Boats, trailers and caravans
  • Engine and workshop parts
  • Ladders, scaffold and site gear

How it works

Four steps, and you are paid before you leave.

  1. 01

Ring us or send a photo

Tell us roughly what you have got. A photo from your phone is usually enough for us to say whether it is worth bringing in and what to expect.

  2. 02

    Bring it to the yard

Drive it into the Braybrook yard Monday to Saturday, or at another time by arrangement. Any amount, and no appointment. Factories and industrial sites can book a pickup instead.

  3. 03

    Weighed in front of you

Your load goes on the scales while you watch. You see the reading and you get the docket. Nothing is weighed out the back where you cannot see it.

  4. 04

    Paid on the spot

Sorted the moment the weight is agreed. You are not waiting on an invoice and you are not chasing anybody next week.

Weighing and payment

You watch the scales. That is the whole policy.

The single most common worry people have about selling scrap is that the weight will not be right and there is no way to check. So we took the question off the table.

  • Your load is weighed where you can see it. Nothing goes out the back and comes back with a number on it.
  • You get a docket with the weight on it. Written down, in your hand, before anything is settled.
  • Grades are shown to you, not just quoted. If your copper is two different grades we will separate it in front of you and explain why.
  • Payment is settled on the spot. Once the weight is agreed, that is it. No invoice, no waiting.
