You watch the load go on the scales and you see the reading yourself. Nothing gets weighed out the back.
Settled the moment the weight is agreed. No invoice to wait on and nobody to chase next week.
Two hours after most Melbourne yards shut, 5pm on Saturday, and after hours by arrangement if you ring ahead.
A boot load is weighed the same way as a truck load. Factories and industrial sites, we collect.
Scrap metal recycling, South eastern suburbs
Metal Plus buys scrap metal from the manufacturers, fabricators, engineering shops and food plants of Melbourne’s south east, from Dandenong South and Clayton to Braeside and Carrum Downs, and from the builders and households of the growth suburbs out to Pakenham. Most of the volume is industrial, and much of it is regular.
For a site that produces metal every week, a bin on the ground, swapped as it fills, is simpler than booking trucks. One-off factory and industrial loads are collected. From a house, the metal comes to our yard in Braybrook, which takes any amount. Weights and grades are shown to you every time, and you are paid on the spot.
Where the yard is
Our yard is in Braybrook, and collection from a factory or an industrial site in the south east works exactly the same as anywhere else we go. For a site producing metal every week, a bin on the ground is simpler than booking trucks at all. From a house it is a long drive, and the yard takes any amount.
What we see from here
Different regions produce genuinely different loads. This is what turns up from the south eastern suburbs, and roughly who it comes from.
Production scrap in quantity out of Dandenong South: plate offcuts, structural drops, press scrap and the steel that falls off a line every shift.
Beam and RHS offcuts, plate, purlin ends and the general heavy steel that comes off a fabrication floor. Ordinarily bin work rather than pickup work.
Scrap steel recyclingTurnings, borings, offcut bar and tooling from the engineering shops through Clayton, Mulgrave and Notting Hill. Worth keeping separate.
Machinery, tanks, vessels, conveyor and line equipment at end of life or on a refit. Electric motors and cable are worth separating out.
Machinery dismantlingAccumulated scrap out of the older estates through Braeside, Moorabbin and Cheltenham, which is usually more than the owner thinks it is.
Stainless vessels, benching and conveyor, plus aluminium and steel packaging waste from the production plants across the region.
How it works
Tell us roughly what you have got. A photo from your phone is usually enough for us to say whether it is worth bringing in and what to expect.
Drive it into the Braybrook yard Monday to Saturday, or at another time by arrangement. Any amount, and no appointment. Factories and industrial sites can book a pickup instead.
Your load goes on the scales while you watch. You see the reading and you get the docket. Nothing is weighed out the back where you cannot see it.
Sorted the moment the weight is agreed. You are not waiting on an invoice and you are not chasing anybody next week.
Three ways to sell
Pull in, get weighed, get paid. No appointment and no minimum. We are open until 6:30pm on weekdays and 5pm on Saturday, and after hours by arrangement.
For factories and industrial sites across Greater Melbourne. Tell us what the site produces and roughly how much, and we will bring the right truck.
Scrap bins dropped on site for jobs over a tonne. Factories, demolition, construction and site clearance. We swap them out as they fill.
Weighing and payment
The single most common worry people have about selling scrap is that the weight will not be right and there is no way to check. So we took the question off the table.

Where we go
Dandenong South is not a suburb with some factories in it, it is a purpose-built industrial precinct on a scale nothing else in Victoria matches. Heavy manufacturing, structural fabrication, engineering, plastics, food production, packaging and logistics, much of it operating at a size where scrap is a line item somebody is accountable for rather than a pile out the back.
Around it, Clayton and Notting Hill carry a research, engineering and light-manufacturing mix, Braeside and Moorabbin hold a large older light-industrial estate full of workshops and trades, and Carrum Downs and Hallam pick up the newer end of the same thing.
The residential side is real too, particularly the newer growth through Narre Warren, Berwick, Cranbourne, Officer and Pakenham, but most of the metal out of this region is industrial. If you are running a site down here that puts out metal every week, that is the conversation worth having.

Questions
The ones we get asked most from this part of Melbourne.
Call 0452 220 422Because collection works the same here as anywhere else we go, so the distance is ours to worry about, not yours. What actually decides it is being weighed honestly and paid on the spot, which is the part worth changing yards over.
Yes, and in this region that is normally the right answer. A bin on your site, swapped when it is full, with the weights and the grades shown to you each time. Ring and tell us what comes out and how often, and we will work out what fits.
No. Pickup is for factories and industrial sites, which is most of what this region produces. From a house in Narre Warren, Berwick or Cranbourne, the yard in Braybrook takes any amount, Monday to Saturday, if you are heading across town.
You are welcome to be. That is the whole basis of how we work: the load goes on the scales where you can see it and the weight goes on a docket before money is discussed. For a bin arrangement you get the weights and the grades each time rather than a lump figure at the end of the month.
You are paid on the spot as soon as the weight is agreed, for a collection or a bin swap as much as at our gate. That is usually what a search for cash for scrap is asking. How a scrap metal dealer in Victoria may pay is set by state law, the same for every yard, and our page on the law covers it.
The same way as for a one-off load: by the metal, its grade, how clean it is and the weight, at the prices per kg we publish. On a bin arrangement each swap is priced on its own weights and grades, so you can check every figure.
Ring us and we will tell you what it is worth and whether it is worth bringing in. Takes two minutes and it costs you nothing to ask.
