You watch the load go on the scales and you see the reading yourself. Nothing gets weighed out the back.
Settled the moment the weight is agreed. No invoice to wait on and nobody to chase next week.
Two hours after most Melbourne yards shut, 5pm on Saturday, and after hours by arrangement if you ring ahead.
A boot load is weighed the same way as a truck load. Factories and industrial sites, we collect.
Scrap metal recycling, Bayside suburbs
Metal Plus buys scrap metal from the builders and demolition contractors knocking down and rebuilding houses along the bay, from the plumbers, electricians and roofers working on the ones being renovated, and from the building managers and body corporates of the flats in St Kilda and Elwood. Most of it is high-value: copper pipe and cable, brass tapware, aluminium windows and stainless from kitchens, with roofing and steel from the knock-downs.
Our yard is in Braybrook, on the other side of Melbourne. A knock-down or strip-out with more than a tonne of metal can have a bin on site, free on demolition jobs and swapped as it fills. From a house, a car boot of copper or brass is worth the drive to the yard, where there is no minimum, and the few factories and industrial sites here can have it collected. Every load is graded in front of you and paid on the spot.
Where the yard is
Our yard is in Braybrook, in Melbourne’s west, so from Brighton or Sandringham it is a drive across the city. For a demolition or a rebuild that changes nothing: the bin comes to the site, it is swapped as it fills, and the weights and grades are shown to you every time. For a household it is a long drive, so ring or send a photo first and we will tell you honestly whether the load is worth it.
What we see from here
Different regions produce genuinely different loads. This is what turns up from the bayside suburbs, and roughly who it comes from.
Roofing, gutters, steel framing, copper pipe and cable from the houses coming down in Brighton, Hampton and Beaumaris. Strip the copper and cable before the excavator arrives, and put the rest in a metal bin rather than the skip.
Demolition scrap metalCopper pipe and old cable out of the period houses of Elsternwick, Caulfield and Elwood. Small by weight and high by value per kilo.
What scrap copper is worthBrass tapware and fittings, stainless sinks and benches. Easy to undersell as mixed steel, and each is paid at its own grade kept apart.
Scrap brass taps and fittingsAluminium window frames, sliding doors and balustrade from renovations along the bay. Clean aluminium with the glass out is graded higher.
Scrap aluminium, by gradeRoller doors, balustrade, old bike racks, plant room replacements and basement clear-outs from the blocks of flats in St Kilda and Elwood. Ring before a big one.
Offcuts and old stock off the plumbers’, electricians’ and roofers’ utes: copper, brass, cable and flashing, each kept in its own bucket.
Scrap cable and wireHow it works
Tell us roughly what you have got. A photo from your phone is usually enough for us to say whether it is worth bringing in and what to expect.
Drive it into the Braybrook yard Monday to Saturday, or at another time by arrangement. Any amount, and no appointment. Factories and industrial sites can book a pickup instead.
Your load goes on the scales while you watch. You see the reading and you get the docket. Nothing is weighed out the back where you cannot see it.
Sorted the moment the weight is agreed. You are not waiting on an invoice and you are not chasing anybody next week.
Three ways to sell
Pull in, get weighed, get paid. No appointment and no minimum. We are open until 6:30pm on weekdays and 5pm on Saturday, and after hours by arrangement.
For factories and industrial sites across Greater Melbourne. Tell us what the site produces and roughly how much, and we will bring the right truck.
Scrap bins dropped on site for jobs over a tonne. Factories, demolition, construction and site clearance. We swap them out as they fill.
Weighing and payment
The single most common worry people have about selling scrap is that the weight will not be right and there is no way to check. So we took the question off the table.

Where we go
Brighton is one of the oldest suburbs in Melbourne. Henry Dendy’s special survey was sold in March 1841, the town was laid out that spring in the crescent of streets it still has, and by 1846 it was the third biggest town in Port Phillip. The railway reached Brighton Beach in 1861 and Sandringham, then called Gipsy Village, in 1887.
Bayside city was formed in December 1994 from Brighton, Sandringham and parts of Moorabbin and Mordialloc, and its foreshore runs through Brighton, Hampton, Sandringham, Black Rock and Beaumaris, the last two mainly inter- and postwar suburbs. North of it, St Kilda, Elwood, Elsternwick and Caulfield are older and denser, with streets of flats among the period houses.
There is almost no industry here, and the metal comes out of change instead. Big blocks and high property values mean old houses are knocked down and rebuilt, or replaced with townhouses, and every one of those jobs produces roofing, copper pipe, cable and aluminium windows. The renovations in between produce the brass tapware, the stainless and the copper, which are the best-paying metals there are.

Questions
The ones we get asked most from this part of Melbourne.
Call 0452 220 422From factories and industrial sites, yes, though there are few around the bay. We do not collect from houses. A demolition or rebuild in Brighton with more than a tonne of metal can have a bin on site instead, and from a house, the yard in Braybrook takes any amount, Monday to Saturday.
Yes. On a demolition job over a tonne the bin is free, you are paid for the metal that goes in it, and it is swapped as it fills. Pull the copper pipe and cable out first and keep them apart: they are the best-paying metal on the site.
It depends on what is in it. Copper, brass, cable and aluminium usually are; a trailer of steel and roofing iron often is not, from this far. Ring or send a photo first. If you do come, the yard is open 7am to 6:30pm on weekdays and 7am to 5pm on Saturday, with no minimum.
Yes, and they are the loads most worth the drive: copper pipe, cable and wire, brass taps and fittings. Keep the two apart and take off what steel comes away easily, because clean copper and clean brass are each graded higher.
You are paid on the spot when the weight is agreed, on a bin swap from a Brighton site as much as at our gate. That is what most people searching for cash for scrap want to know. How a scrap metal dealer in Victoria may pay is set by state law for every yard, and our page on the law explains it.
The price is set by the metal, its grade, how clean it is and the weight, not by the suburb, at the prices per kg we publish. Bayside renovation scrap is often worth more than people expect, because it is mostly copper, brass and stainless. Ring or send a photo and we will tell you what to expect.
Ring us and we will tell you what it is worth and whether it is worth bringing in. Takes two minutes and it costs you nothing to ask.
