Weighed in front of you
You watch the load go on the scales and you see the reading yourself. Nothing gets weighed out the back.
Our yard is on Ashley Street, right on Maidstone’s border. Bring in any amount, weighed in front of you and paid on the spot.
We buy Copper, Aluminium, Brass, Stainless steel, Steel and heavy metal, Cable and wire, Car bodies, Lead, Batteries, Electric motors, Alloy wheels, Radiators, Catalytic converters, Offcuts, Site clearance.
You watch the load go on the scales and you see the reading yourself. Nothing gets weighed out the back.
Settled the moment the weight is agreed. No invoice to wait on and nobody to chase next week.
Two hours after most Melbourne yards shut, 5pm on Saturday, and after hours by arrangement if you ring ahead.
A boot load is weighed the same way as a truck load. Factories and industrial sites, we collect.
Scrap metal recycling, Maidstone
Metal Plus buys scrap metal from the households and renovators of Maidstone and Maribyrnong, and from the factories, warehouses and freight businesses on Tottenham’s industrial land. Copper pipe and wiring, brass tapware, roofing iron, cable and production offcuts are the regular loads.
Our scrap yard is at 159 Ashley St, Braybrook, and Ashley Street is the line between Braybrook and Maidstone. That makes the yard the easy way to sell: drive it in with any amount, no appointment. Tottenham’s factories can have a load collected, and a workshop filling a bin can have one swapped as it fills. Graded in front of you, paid on the spot.
Where the yard is
Ashley Street divides Braybrook from Maidstone, and our yard is on it, so from anywhere in Maidstone it is a short run. Tottenham’s industrial land runs north up the same street from the railway. Load the boot or the trailer, come in, and be weighed and paid while you wait.
What we see from here
This is what turns up from Maidstone, and roughly who it comes from.
Copper pipe, old wiring, roofing iron and gutters from the Maidstone houses being renovated or replaced. Pull the copper and the cable out before the skip arrives.
Copper recyclingProduction offcuts, worn plant and machinery from the factories along the railway and up Ashley Street. Cable and electric motors are worth separating from the steel.
Scrap cable and wireDamaged racking, pallet cages, strapping, steel drums and trailer parts from the warehouses and freight yards. Heavy steel in quantity is usually bin work.
Steel recycling and site binsHow it works
Tell us roughly what you have got. A photo from your phone is usually enough for us to say whether it is worth bringing in and what to expect.
Drive it into the Braybrook yard Monday to Saturday, or at another time by arrangement. Any amount, and no appointment. Factories and industrial sites can book a pickup instead.
Your load goes on the scales while you watch. You see the reading and you get the docket. Nothing is weighed out the back where you cannot see it.
Sorted the moment the weight is agreed. You are not waiting on an invoice and you are not chasing anybody next week.
Three ways to sell
Pull in, get weighed, get paid. No appointment and no minimum. We are open until 6:30pm on weekdays and 5pm on Saturday, and after hours by arrangement.
For factories and industrial sites across Greater Melbourne. Tell us what the site produces and roughly how much, and we will bring the right truck.
Scrap bins dropped on site for jobs over a tonne. Factories, demolition, construction and site clearance. We swap them out as they fill.
Weighing and payment
The single most common worry people have about selling scrap is that the weight will not be right and there is no way to check. So we took the question off the table.

Where we go
Maidstone was surveyed in about 1858 as a township south of Ballarat Road and east of Ashley Street, and seems to have been named because Maidstone and Footscray sit close together in Kent. It stayed small for decades. The Second World War changed that: the munitions and ordnance factories at Maribyrnong worked around the clock, and a tram was run out through Maidstone towards them in 1941.
After the war the Housing Commission built a large estate south of Ballarat Road, running on into Braybrook, and the Midway migrant hostel on Hampstead Road took in new arrivals. Those postwar houses are the ones being renovated and replaced now, and they are where most of Maidstone’s copper, cable and roofing iron comes from.
Tottenham is the other half of the story: almost entirely industrial, with barely a house in it. Its station opened in 1891 and took its name from the London suburb. Railway marshalling yards were laid out in the 1910s and grew when the western goods line came through in the late 1920s, and government stores, an air force depot, wool stores and a cable works followed. Today it is factories, warehouses and freight, and they turn out offcuts, cable and worn-out plant.

Questions
The ones we get asked most from Maidstone. Anything else, ring and ask.
Call 0452 220 422On its doorstep. Ashley Street is the boundary between Braybrook and Maidstone, and the yard is at 159 Ashley St. There is no appointment and no minimum, and we are open 7am to 6:30pm on weekdays and 7am to 5pm on Saturday.
Yes, either. A factory with a big load can have it collected, a site producing scrap every week can have a bin swapped as it fills, and anything that fits on a ute can simply be driven up the road and weighed while you wait.
Yes. There is no minimum at the gate, and copper and brass are worth enough per kilo that a bucket of offcuts or a few old taps is still money. Keep them apart, because each is graded on its own.
The copper pipe and the old wiring first, then any brass, the roofing iron, the gutters and the steel. Whatever you pull out before the skip arrives is money rather than skip space, and from Maidstone it is only a short trip to the yard.
You are paid on the spot as soon as the weight is agreed, and from Maidstone or Tottenham that is usually at our gate on Ashley Street. That is what most people searching for cash for scrap mean. How a scrap metal dealer in Victoria may pay is set by state law, the same at every yard, and our page on the law explains it.
The metal decides most of it, with copper and brass at the top, aluminium in the middle, and steel and roofing iron at the bottom. Then come the grade, how clean it is and the weight, at the prices per kg we publish. From here, the simplest way to find out is to bring it in and watch every weight and grade for yourself.
Ring us and we will tell you what it is worth and whether it is worth bringing in. Takes two minutes and it costs you nothing to ask.
