Scrap metal recycling, Altona
Metal Plus buys scrap metal from the manufacturers, engineering shops, transport yards and process plants of Altona North and the Kororoit Creek Road corridor, and from the households and renovators of Altona, Seaholme and Altona Meadows. Stainless and steel pipework, tanks, racking, production offcuts and copper out of the older houses near the beach are the regular loads.
Altona North backs onto Brooklyn, and our yard at 159 Ashley St, Braybrook is just past it. Factories and industrial sites here are collected from on a short run, and a site that fills a bin has it swapped as it fills. From a house it is an easy trip to the yard, where there is no minimum. Graded in front of you, paid on the spot.
Where the yard is
Altona North backs onto Brooklyn, and the yard is just past Brooklyn and Tottenham, in Braybrook. That makes the industrial sites here a short run for our trucks, and a trailer load from a house an easy trip in, with no appointment and no minimum at the gate.

Where we go
Altona took its name from the homestead of Alfred Langhorne, who leased the land around 1842, and the homestead took it from a town on the Elbe outside Hamburg. A coal company started boring here in 1881, but it found brown coal and water rather than black coal, and the mine was finished by 1919.
Industry came with oil. A refinery opened east of Seaholme in 1924, Vacuum Oil began refining at Altona in 1949, and in 1961 the first plant of a petrochemical complex beside Kororoit Creek Road came into production, with synthetic rubber and chemical works following it. The 1949 refinery ran until 2021, when it became a fuel import terminal.
So Altona is two places. Altona North and the Kororoit Creek Road corridor are industrial, full of plant, pipework, tanks and the steel that keeps them running. Altona, Seaholme and Altona Meadows are houses, from postwar blocks near the beach to newer estates, being renovated and rebuilt like the rest of the west.

Questions
The ones we get asked most from Altona. Anything else, ring and ask.
Call 0452 220 422Yes, and it is one of our shorter runs. Ring with what you have, roughly how much, and where a truck can get to it, or send a photo through the form.
Yes. Stainless and steel pipework, tanks, vessels and structural steel are all metal we buy, and over a shutdown a bin on site, swapped as it fills, usually beats booking trucks. Tanks and pipework have to be empty and drained. Ring before it starts and tell us what is coming out.
No. Pickup is for factories and industrial sites. From a house in Altona, Seaholme or Altona Meadows, the yard in Braybrook takes any amount, open 7am to 6:30pm on weekdays and 7am to 5pm on Saturday.
Yes, well above mild steel, as long as it is kept out of the steel bin. Most stainless will not hold a magnet, which is the quickest way to sort it on site, and we show you which grade yours came out as.
You are paid on the spot when the weight is agreed, whether we collect from a site in Altona North or you bring a load to Braybrook. That is usually what people searching for cash for scrap are after. How a scrap metal dealer in Victoria may pay is set by state law for every yard, and our page on the law explains it.
The same as anywhere we buy: the metal, its grade, how clean it is and the weight decide it, at the prices per kg we publish. On plant and pipework it is the stainless grade that moves the number most, so keep it apart. Ring or send a photo and we will tell you what to expect.
Ring us and we will tell you what it is worth and whether it is worth bringing in. Takes two minutes and it costs you nothing to ask.
