Scrap radiators · per kg

$1 to $16/kg

As at

Scrap radiator prices per kg in Melbourne, as at 29 October 2026
Grade Price per kg
Copper and brass radiators Top rate Car and truck radiators and heat exchangers, copper tube and brass tanks. $8 to $16/kg
Heater cores Small copper and brass heater cores, with the plastic off. $5 to $10/kg
Aircon coils and condensers Copper tube in aluminium fins, out of aircon units and condensers. $3.50 to $7/kg
Aluminium radiators Aluminium core radiators. Plastic tanks off for the top of the range. $1 to $2/kg

It depends first on what the radiator is made of. Copper and brass radiators are worth the most, aircon coils with copper tube in aluminium fin come next, and aluminium radiators the least, though all of them are worth well above steel. Then on how clean it is. Plastic tanks, steel brackets, fans and rubber hoses are not radiator, and coolant left inside is weight we cannot use, so a drained, stripped radiator is graded higher than one straight out of the car.

Not sure which grade yours is? Ring, or send a photo, and we will tell you what to expect before you load the trailer.

Why people use this yard

Weighed in front of you

You watch the load go on the scales and you see the reading yourself. Nothing gets weighed out the back.

Paid on the spot

Settled the moment the weight is agreed. No invoice to wait on and nobody to chase next week.

Open till 6:30pm weekdays

Two hours after most Melbourne yards shut, 5pm on Saturday, and after hours by arrangement if you ring ahead.

No minimum at the yard

A boot load is weighed the same way as a truck load. Factories and industrial sites, we collect.

What we buy

Every type of scrap radiator we buy.

A radiator is paid on what it is made of, and radiators are made of very different things. An old copper and brass one is worth a great deal more than an aluminium one with plastic tanks, so the first job is telling them apart.

You do not need to know the grade: we grade it in front of you and show you what came out of the load.

  • A stack of old brass and copper radiator cores

    Copper and brass radiators

Older car, truck, tractor and machinery radiators with copper cores and brass tanks. The best paying radiator grade.

  • Aluminium car radiators in a pile, hoses and plastic tanks still attached

    Aluminium radiators

Modern car radiators, usually with black plastic tanks. Graded below copper and brass, and worth more with the plastic tanks cut off.

  • A pile of aluminium condensers and radiators with their pipe stubs

    Aircon coils and condensers

Copper tube through aluminium fins, or all aluminium, out of air conditioning, refrigeration and vehicles. Graded on what they are made of.

  • A copper and brass heater core on a pile of scrap radiators

    Heater cores

The small radiators from behind a car’s dashboard. Copper and brass or aluminium, graded the same way as the big ones.

Not on the list, or not sure what you have got?

These are the common ones, not everything we take. Not sure what yours is made of? Copper and brass radiators are brown-gold, heavy for their size, with soldered brass tanks. Aluminium ones are silver, light, and usually have black plastic tanks. Send a photo and we will tell you what to expect.

Dawood is one of the nicest lads you’ll meet. Clearly communicated on the phone and was a pleasure to deal with. Had to get rid of these wheels asap and he took care of me with a fair payment.

I recently had an old accident-damaged car that I needed to get rid of while I was in Bendigo. After searching on Google, I found MetalPlus in Melbourne, and I’m really glad I chose them.

The whole process was smooth and hassle-free. They were professional, easy to deal with, and offered me a fair price for my car. When I dropped the car off, everything was handled quickly, and I received my payment without any issues.

Send us a photo

What are your radiators worth? Send a photo.

A picture from your phone is usually enough for us to tell you what it is and what to expect for it, before you load the trailer.

The quickest way for us to get back to you.

So we know where you are.

How would you like to do it?

We only collect from factories and industrial sites. From a house, bring it to the yard: any amount, no appointment.

Rough is fine. "About half a ute of copper pipe and some brass fittings" tells us plenty. If you know roughly how much there is, say so.

Up to four. A photo from your phone is usually enough for us to tell you what it is worth, and it saves a trip if it turns out not to be.

In a hurry? Ring 0452 220 422. We are open until 6:30pm on weekdays and 5pm on Saturday.

Where to sell it

Where to sell scrap radiators in Melbourne.

Drop it off at our yard, 159 Ashley St, Braybrook, with any amount, from a single heater core to a ute load from a radiator shop, with no appointment and no minimum at the gate. We are open 7am to 6:30pm on weekdays and 7am to 5pm on Saturday, and outside those hours by arrangement.

Radiators come out of every workshop, and we see them from Sunshine’s automotive and trade estates next door to the trade estates out east. From a factory or an industrial site, we collect, weighed on site and paid on collection.

Bring photo ID, which Victorian law requires for every scrap metal sale. Drain the coolant before you come, and keep the copper and brass radiators apart from the aluminium ones.

How much is a scrap radiator worth?

We pay $1 to $16 per kg for scrap radiators at our Braybrook yard in Melbourne, depending on the grade. By grade, per kg: copper and brass radiators $8 to $16, heater cores $5 to $10, aircon coils $3.50 to $7 and aluminium radiators $1 to $2. What your load comes to is confirmed on the scales in front of you, by grade and weight.

How do I tell a copper radiator from an aluminium one?

Copper and brass radiators are brown-gold, heavy for their size, and have soldered brass tanks at the top and bottom. Aluminium radiators are silver, light, and usually have black plastic tanks. If you are not sure, send a photo.

Do I need to drain the radiator first?

Please do. Coolant is toxic and it is weight that is not metal, so a drained radiator is cleaner to grade and lighter to carry. Drain it into a container and dispose of it properly, never down the drain.

Do you take aluminium radiators with plastic tanks?

Yes, as they are. They are graded below aluminium radiators with the tanks cut off, so for a pallet of them it can be worth cutting the plastic off. For a few, bring them as they are.

Scrap aluminium and its grades

Do you take aircon coils and condensers?

Yes. Copper tube through aluminium fins is graded on its own, and all-aluminium condensers go with the aluminium radiators. Bring the coils on their own, out of the unit.

Do you buy truck and tractor radiators?

Yes, and they are often the best ones to sell: big, heavy, and many of them still copper and brass. Drain them first.

Do you take heater cores?

Yes. They are graded the same way as the big radiators: copper and brass, or aluminium.

Is there a minimum for radiators?

No minimum at the yard: a single heater core is fine.

Worth knowing

How to get more for your scrap radiators.

Including the times when the honest answer is that it is not worth your trouble.

  1. 01

    Drain the coolant

Coolant is toxic to people and animals, it is weight that is not metal, and a radiator that is still full makes a mess of the trailer. Drain it into a container and take it to a proper disposal point, never down the drain.

  2. 02

    Keep copper-brass apart from aluminium

They are graded a long way apart. Thrown in together, a copper and brass radiator can end up weighed with the aluminium ones, which costs you a lot of what it was worth. Brass and copper fittings off the hoses go in their own pile.

  3. 03

Cut off the plastic and the steel

Plastic tanks, steel brackets, fan shrouds and rubber hoses are not radiator. For a few radiators it is not worth the time. For a pallet of aluminium radiators, cutting the plastic tanks off lifts the grade.

However you bring it, it is weighed in front of you.

You watch the load go on the scales, you read the figure yourself, and you get it on a docket before money is discussed.

How we weigh and pay

Recognise yours?

Where scrap radiators usually come from.

The jobs that most often produce scrap radiators. If yours is not here it does not mean we will not take it.

  • Mechanics and radiator repairers
  • Car wreckers and dismantlers
  • Truck, bus and tractor servicing
  • Air conditioning and refrigeration coils
  • Machinery and generator cooling systems
  • Cars stripped before scrapping

How it works

Four steps, and you are paid before you leave.

  1. 01

Ring us or send a photo

Tell us roughly what you have got. A photo from your phone is usually enough for us to say whether it is worth bringing in and what to expect.

  2. 02

    Bring it to the yard

Drive it into the Braybrook yard Monday to Saturday, or at another time by arrangement. Any amount, and no appointment. Factories and industrial sites can book a pickup instead.

  3. 03

    Weighed in front of you

Your load goes on the scales while you watch. You see the reading and you get the docket. Nothing is weighed out the back where you cannot see it.

  4. 04

    Paid on the spot

Sorted the moment the weight is agreed. You are not waiting on an invoice and you are not chasing anybody next week.

Weighing and payment

You watch the scales. That is the whole policy.

The single most common worry people have about selling scrap is that the weight will not be right and there is no way to check. So we took the question off the table.

  • Your load is weighed where you can see it. Nothing goes out the back and comes back with a number on it.
  • You get a docket with the weight on it. Written down, in your hand, before anything is settled.
  • Grades are shown to you, not just quoted. If your copper is two different grades we will separate it in front of you and explain why.
  • Payment is settled on the spot. Once the weight is agreed, that is it. No invoice, no waiting.
