You watch the load go on the scales and you see the reading yourself. Nothing gets weighed out the back.
Settled the moment the weight is agreed. No invoice to wait on and nobody to chase next week.
Two hours after most Melbourne yards shut, 5pm on Saturday, and after hours by arrangement if you ring ahead.
A boot load is weighed the same way as a truck load. Factories and industrial sites, we collect.
Machinery dismantling and removal
Metal Plus dismantles and buys old machinery from Melbourne’s factories, engineering shops, food plants, workshops and warehouses: machine tools at the end of their life, production lines coming out for a refit, compressors and pumps from a plant room, and everything on the floor when a site closes. Plant managers, facilities managers, engineers and liquidators use us so the machinery leaves as scrap metal that is weighed and paid for.
A machine that will not come out in one piece is taken apart where it stands, loaded and collected, with the motors, cable, copper and brass kept apart from the steel. A long clear-out can have a bin on site for the smaller pieces, and a single machine from a home workshop is easiest brought to the yard in Braybrook. Every grade is weighed in front of you, and you are paid on the spot.
What we dismantle
A machine is several metals bolted together, and each is paid at its own grade. Taking them apart properly is where the money is.
Lathes, mills, drills, presses, guillotines, press brakes and saws. Mostly cast iron and steel by weight, with the motors, cable and any brass taken out and graded on their own.
Scrap steel and cast ironConveyors, line equipment, hoppers, tanks and frames from a refit or a closure. Food plant is usually stainless, which is paid as stainless kept apart from the mild steel.
The stainless grades we buyElectric motors, gearboxes, compressors, pumps and fans. The copper in a motor’s windings means it is graded as a motor, not thrown in with the steel.
Scrap electric motorsSwitchboards, control cabinets, busbar, cable tray and the cable that fed the machines. Cable is graded by how much copper is in it.
Scrap cable and wire, gradedCopper and aluminium coils, condensers, radiators and heat exchangers out of refrigeration and cooling plant. Among the best-paying parts of an old plant room.
Scrap radiators and coilsPallet racking, mezzanine steel, workbenches, guarding and machine bases. Heavy, paid by weight, and usually the bulk of a factory clear-out.
How it works
Ring, or send photos through the form. What the machine is or what it did, roughly how big, where it sits in the building, and how a truck gets to it.
Before anything is booked: how we would take it apart and out, and what to expect for the metal in it. If it is one machine in a home workshop, we will tell you that the yard is the easier way.
Taken apart as far as it needs to be to come out and go on the truck. The motors, cable, copper and brass are kept apart from the steel, because each is paid at its own grade.
Every grade weighed and shown to you, with a docket. You are paid on the spot once the weights are agreed, not invoiced later.
Worth knowing
A refit or a closure has a deadline, and the machinery is usually the last thing anybody plans for. A call early on means the truck is booked around your date rather than the other way round.
Power, air and gas off and disconnected by your electrician or maintenance crew before the truck arrives, and any oil, coolant or hydraulic fluid drained or pointed out. It saves a day and it keeps everybody safe.
A forklift, an overhead crane, or nothing at all. Along with the doors, the floor and how close a truck can get, it decides how a machine comes apart and how it leaves.
A machine in a general waste skip is metal paid to throw away. Old machinery is worth money for its metal, and a long clear-out can have a bin on site for the smaller pieces.
Weighing and payment
The single most common worry people have about selling scrap is that the weight will not be right and there is no way to check. So we took the question off the table.

Questions
Anything not here, ring and ask before the job is booked. It costs nothing, and it can save a day.
Call 0452 220 422Yes, at factories and industrial sites. A machine that will not come out in one piece is taken apart where it stands, as far as it needs to be to get it out and onto the truck. Ring with what it is, where it is and how a truck gets to it, and we will tell you how we would take it out.
Yes. Machinery is bought for the metal in it: the steel and cast iron by weight, and the motors, cable, copper, brass and aluminium each at their own grade. Everything is weighed and shown to you, and you are paid on the spot.
Most of what a factory or workshop runs: machine tools, presses, guillotines, production lines and conveyors, compressors, pumps, motors, switchboards, tanks, racking and refrigeration plant. If it is mostly metal, ring and ask. Machines with fluids in them need draining or pointing out first.
Yes. A full clear-out is usually a mix of dismantling the big machines, collecting the loose plant and a bin on site for the smaller pieces, swapped as it fills. Tell us the date it has to be empty and we will work back from it.
Dismantling and pickup are for factories and industrial sites. A small machine from a home workshop can come to the yard in Braybrook, where there is no minimum. For machinery on a farm, ring and ask, and we will tell you honestly what we can do.
You are paid on the spot for every load, once the weights are agreed. That is what most people searching for cash for scrap want to know. How a scrap metal dealer in Victoria may pay is set by state law, the same for every yard, and our page on the law explains it.
It depends on what is in it. The cast iron and steel are paid by weight at steel rates, so the size of the machine is what makes them worth it. The motors, copper windings, cable, brass and aluminium pay far more per kilo, which is why they are taken out and graded on their own. Ring or send a photo and we will tell you what to expect.
