You watch the load go on the scales and you see the reading yourself. Nothing gets weighed out the back.
Settled the moment the weight is agreed. No invoice to wait on and nobody to chase next week.
Two hours after most Melbourne yards shut, 5pm on Saturday, and after hours by arrangement if you ring ahead.
A boot load is weighed the same way as a truck load. Factories and industrial sites, we collect.
Scrap metal recycling, Footscray
Metal Plus buys scrap metal from the people renovating Footscray’s old cottages and weatherboards, and from the builders putting up its apartment towers. That means copper pipe and old wiring, brass tapware, cast iron baths and fireplaces, lead flashing, and the steel, conduit and cable offcuts a construction site throws off.
Our yard at 159 Ashley St, Braybrook is a few suburbs out. A boot or ute load is worth bringing in, because there is no minimum at the gate and copper pays well by the kilo. A building site can have a bin, and the industrial businesses still along the river can have it collected. It is graded in front of you and paid on the spot.
Where the yard is
The yard is in Braybrook, a few suburbs out from Footscray, so a car boot or ute load is an easy trip. There is no appointment and no minimum at the gate. For a building site producing metal every week, a bin on site saves the trips.
What we see from here
This is what turns up from Footscray, and roughly who it comes from.
Copper pipe and old wiring out of the cottages and weatherboards. Small by weight and high by value, and worth a trip to the yard however little there is.
Selling scrap copperCast iron baths, fireplace grates, old brass taps and door hardware from houses being brought up to date. Cast iron and brass are each graded on their own, so keep them apart from the steel.
Scrap brass, sorted on siteOffcut reo, steel framing, conduit, cable and ducting from the tower builds. For a site that fills a bin, a bin on the ground swapped as it fills beats a trailer.
How it works
Tell us roughly what you have got. A photo from your phone is usually enough for us to say whether it is worth bringing in and what to expect.
Drive it into the Braybrook yard Monday to Saturday, or at another time by arrangement. Any amount, and no appointment. Factories and industrial sites can book a pickup instead.
Your load goes on the scales while you watch. You see the reading and you get the docket. Nothing is weighed out the back where you cannot see it.
Sorted the moment the weight is agreed. You are not waiting on an invoice and you are not chasing anybody next week.
Three ways to sell
Pull in, get weighed, get paid. No appointment and no minimum. We are open until 6:30pm on weekdays and 5pm on Saturday, and after hours by arrangement.
For factories and industrial sites across Greater Melbourne. Tell us what the site produces and roughly how much, and we will bring the right truck.
Scrap bins dropped on site for jobs over a tonne. Factories, demolition, construction and site clearance. We swap them out as they fill.
Weighing and payment
The single most common worry people have about selling scrap is that the weight will not be right and there is no way to check. So we took the question off the table.

Where we go
Footscray and West Footscray are full of Victorian and Edwardian workers’ cottages, weatherboards and interwar houses, and a lot of them are being renovated, rewired and replumbed. That produces good copper: pipe and cable that went in decades before anybody thought of them as worth anything.
At the same time the suburb is growing upwards. Apartment towers are going up around the station and along the river, and every one of those builds produces offcut steel, conduit, cable and framing for as long as it is under construction.
Footscray grew up as an industrial river suburb, and parts of it still work that way. But most of what comes to us from here now is renovation and construction metal rather than factory scrap.

Questions
The ones we get asked most from Footscray. Anything else, ring and ask.
Call 0452 220 422The copper above everything: pipe and cable. Then brass taps and fittings, cast iron baths and fireplace grates, and any lead flashing off the roof. Keep each in its own pile if you can, because a mixed load is graded towards the lowest metal in it.
Yes. There is no minimum at the yard, and copper is worth enough per kilo that a boot load is worth the drive. We are open until 6:30pm on weekdays and 5pm on Saturday, and after hours by arrangement.
Yes. Construction sites are a normal job for us, and for a site producing metal every week, a bin swapped as it fills is simpler than booking trucks. Tell us about access and where a bin could sit, and we will work to it.
Yes, and fireplaces, grates and old cast iron pipe too. Cast iron is graded separately from steel, so it is worth keeping apart.
You are paid on the spot at the yard in Braybrook, as soon as the weight is agreed. That is what most people searching for cash for scrap want to know. How a Victorian scrap metal dealer may pay is set by state law, the same for every yard, and our page on the law explains it.
More than most people expect, if the copper and brass are kept apart from the steel. Those two are among the best-paying metals there are, and old houses are full of them. The figure depends on the metal, its grade, how clean it is and the weight, so send a photo and we will tell you what to expect.
Ring us and we will tell you what it is worth and whether it is worth bringing in. Takes two minutes and it costs you nothing to ask.
