Why people use this yard

Weighed in front of you

You watch the load go on the scales and you see the reading yourself. Nothing gets weighed out the back.

Paid on the spot

Settled the moment the weight is agreed. No invoice to wait on and nobody to chase next week.

Open till 6:30pm weekdays

Two hours after most Melbourne yards shut, 5pm on Saturday, and after hours by arrangement if you ring ahead.

No minimum at the yard

A boot load is weighed the same way as a truck load. Factories and industrial sites, we collect.

How it works

Four steps, and the bin does the rest.

  1. 01

    Tell us the job

What the metal is, roughly how much, how long you need the bin, and where it has to sit. Access matters more than people expect, so mention anything tight.

  2. 02

    We drop the bin

Placed where you want it, as close to the work as access allows.

  3. 03

You fill it, we swap it

On a long job we swap a full bin for an empty one so the work never stops. On a one-off we collect it when you say it is ready.

  4. 04

Weighed and paid on the metal

The bin is weighed and you are paid for what was in it. This is scrap metal collection, not a waste service: the metal is paid for, not charged to take away.

Who uses them

Built for jobs that keep producing metal.

Industrial and commercial sites that fill a steel scrap bin week after week, and one-off jobs with more metal than a truck takes in one go.

Factories and fabrication

Offcuts, drops and swarf coming off the floor every week. A standing bin that gets swapped beats somebody ringing for a pickup every few days.

Mechanical workshops

Brake discs and drums, exhaust sections, radiators and steel offcuts building up week after week. A bin in the corner of the yard beats a trailer run.

Demolition and strip-outs

Structural steel, roofing, ducting and pipework. High volume, short timeframe, and the bin needs swapping before the job stops.

Demolition scrap metal

Construction sites

Reo offcuts, framing, conduit and cable ends. Keeping metal out of the general waste skip turns a disposal cost into a payment.

Construction site scrap metal

Site clearance

Plant removal, machinery dismantling and yard clean-ups where there is more metal than a truck can take in one go.

Weighing and payment

You watch the scales. That is the whole policy.

The single most common worry people have about selling scrap is that the weight will not be right and there is no way to check. So we took the question off the table.

  • Your load is weighed where you can see it. Nothing goes out the back and comes back with a number on it.
  • You get a docket with the weight on it. Written down, in your hand, before anything is settled.
  • Grades are shown to you, not just quoted. If your copper is two different grades we will separate it in front of you and explain why.
  • Payment is settled on the spot. Once the weight is agreed, that is it. No invoice, no waiting.

Dawood is one of the nicest lads you’ll meet. Clearly communicated on the phone and was a pleasure to deal with. Had to get rid of these wheels asap and he took care of me with a fair payment.

Would highly recommend his service, easy and straightforward.

I recently had an old accident-damaged car that I needed to get rid of while I was in Bendigo. After searching on Google, I found MetalPlus in Melbourne, and I’m really glad I chose them.

The whole process was smooth and hassle-free. They were professional, easy to deal with, and offered me a fair price for my car. When I dropped the car off, everything was handled quickly, and I received my payment without any issues.

I’m very happy with the service I received and would definitely recommend MetalPlus to anyone looking to sell a scrap or unwanted car. Great experience overall!

Book a bin

Tell us about the site.

We come back to you with whether a bin suits the job, and when it can be dropped. If a pickup would suit it better, we will say so.

The quickest way for us to get back to you.

So we know where you are.

So we know whose site it is when we ring back.

How would you like to do it?

We only collect from factories and industrial sites. From a house, bring it to the yard: any amount, no appointment.

Rough is fine. "Steel offcuts and swarf from the fab shop, a couple of tonnes a month" tells us plenty. Say whether it is one job or ongoing, and mention anything tight about access.

Up to four. A photo from your phone is usually enough for us to tell you what it is worth, and it saves a trip if it turns out not to be.

In a hurry? Ring 0452 220 422. We are open until 6:30pm on weekdays and 5pm on Saturday.

Questions

Questions about bins.

Access and sizing are the two worth sorting before the bin is booked, not on the day.

Call 0452 220 422
Is there a minimum for a bin?

Yes, one tonne. Below that a bin does not stack up for either of us: a factory or industrial site can book a pickup instead, and anyone can bring it to the yard, where there is no minimum. If you are not sure how much you have got, ring and describe it.

Does it cost anything to have a bin dropped?

Not on industrial, mechanical, demolition and similar trade sites: there the bin is free. The metal has value, so you are paid for what goes in the bin rather than charged for the bin itself. For any other job, ring and we will tell you what suits it.

Is this skip bin hire?

Not quite. A scrap metal bin sits on site and fills like a skip, but only metal goes in it, and the metal is paid for rather than charged to take away. Keep general waste, timber and plasterboard in your normal skip: metal with other material through it is worth less, because somebody has to take it out.

How long can I keep it?

As long as the job takes. On ongoing work we swap a full bin for an empty one so nothing stops.

Can you do an ongoing arrangement?

Yes, that is a lot of what we do. Factories, fabrication shops and demolition contractors mostly run on a standing swap rather than ringing every time.

What if access is tight?

Tell us before the bin is booked rather than on the day. Gate widths, overhead lines, low clearances and soft ground all change which truck and which bin can do the job.

Got metal sitting there doing nothing?

Ring us and we will tell you what it is worth and whether it is worth bringing in. Takes two minutes and it costs you nothing to ask.
